Lilies 2010

Winchester, KY(Zone 6a)

OT, 'Shocking', grown in too much shade. It still blooms very well, but the stems aren't as strong as they would be in more sun.

I agree Ramona (Faraway Flowers) is wonderful and very helpful. She certainly does know her lilies!

You posted your photos just as I was on my way out again, facing the dreaded heat we have in the northeast, to take Robina's photo. She just started opening yesterday.

They are all wonderful lilies, Neal.

Neal, Pirl and Jmorth, your images are really beautiful. We are still in trumpet mode here, with Orientals in bud. We have had severely hot weather, but it happily White Henryi doesn't seem to mind.

When I see photos like yours, Donna, I wonder why I haven't bought all the lilies that are available! Beautiful.

Love that Mojave. Mine disappeared somewhere during the years.

The deer ate the Scheherazade buds back in early May, rats and drats!

Now I have to check Casablanca, nanny! I love those blooms.

Is anyone else finding way too many ants on their blooms this year?

Lizella, GA(Zone 8a)

ooooo, so pretty, all of them. And the smell is wonderful!!

Lincoln, NE(Zone 5b)

What a gorgeous bunch of lilies. Tex68, you have some great combinations. I'm thinking Maywood and Mojave need to get added here this fall. Bonbini is another one I don't have and really like. Orientals are just starting here.

Pirl,

Casa Blanca is a great lily. It was one of my first many years ago, and it's still with me. Orientals can be tricky, but that one's a winner.

Bit while you are at it, also check out Crystal Blanca (B&D Lilies, and I believe The Lily Garden has started offering it). It's like a shorter Casablanca on incredibly strong stems. It needs no staking, and no attention. I have both. I'll post Crystal when it blooms (it's now in heavy bud).

I will do as you suggest, Donna, though I've never had to stake Casa Blanca. We've had that for 15 years now and it's simply a stunning performer in the garden.

At the moment I'm madly in love with the photo of 'Aubade' by Jack (jmorth):

It's exciting to get that "must have" feeling!

Pirl,

Whoops! I misunderstood from your posting that you did not yet have Casablanca. Wow, you've had it for 5 years longer than I have!

(Arlene) Southold, NY(Zone 7a)

We started off with about 5 or 6 bulbs, then I added to the plot. No worries about misunderstanding when I'm still on my first cup of coffee I can't be held responsible for not making myself clear.

I did check last night, after nanny posted, and mine are in full bud and waiting to burst open soon.

Found the photo - here six were established and growing and I added a dozen to it back in '08. Each little white rock marks the spot where a new bulb was planted.
