Wonderful bloom photos, Helena! I love that split color Purple Speckles! Can't believe all the lovely vines you have putting on the Ritz! A grand show for sure!
Morning Glories 2010 #09
Helena and Jackie, you both have such beautiful blooms. I missed a huge white one this am, found it on the south patio barrell wilted, did get to see the third huge bloom of a light blue i. nil this am. This weekend maybe I will catch a few others.
Thanks Debra. Hope you have lots of blooms to enjoy this weekend.
Wonderful blooms Helena.Gorgeous Saz and the Tai Aki I like
more all the time,.
Debra, beautiful bloom, is it Blue Star? I love it what ever it is
Debra - I agree with Jackie and helen - I really love this one, too - in all its plain, simple, icy beauty - http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7956696 .
I've been enjoying all the mgs posted on this thread - so much beauty
karen
Debra - Beautiful pale blue bloom! Glad you were able to get a photo of it! I am outside every morning after filling the bird feeders to check on my plants. Makes my day! :-)
Helena - Love that blue sazanami! Really pretty! And the other two are wonderful, too! You know I have my favorites! lol
Jackie - Your Good Morning Violet is nice! It's also known as Violet Sun Smiles, right? Nice cultivar all the way around. Looks like a good bloomer, too!
I am gonna try to post a couple of photos from yesterday morning. This one has the day old blooms (pink) still open on it as well as the new blooms (light blue). I don't know how that happened! It must be getting some shade from the Oak tree for the blooms not to have wilted. Thought it looked rather pretty with both color of blooms on the same vine at the same time. :-)
This is not a MG, but it was a rare sight for me to see. This is a Zebra Swallowtail. I think I've seen only one other in my garden in the past 6 years! It was all over my Scarlett Milkweed. Must've been a hungry butterfly to hang around for so long. The Monarch butterflies kept trying to chase it off! LOL!
Becky,
I just lov3e this photo http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=7959030. I just love this shade of purple. Your Purple Speckles are also beautiful. I can't wait for our growing season to start. LOL!
Thanks Elsa! Surprising how those vines can sneak around each other! LOL!
When does your growing season officially start in SA? Are you expanding your veggie garden this year?
I usually start planting seeds towards the end of August. I direct sow after I started loads of seeds one year, and ended up hurting my back carrying them out to get some sun, and back again to protect them from the cold... Can't say they flowered any earlier than the years I just sowed them directly into the beds.
Yes, lol!, I am expanding my vegetable garden. I have some wood that needs to become a raised bed like the one I already have. I plan to grow lots of peppers in them, and maybe some tomatoes. I actually think it will be better to grow the tomatoes in the beds as I did last year. I don't think I will have enough soace for them and the peppers in the raised beds. Beans will go against the fence.
How are your veggies doing?
Yes, I can't wait for warmer weather. I am so not a Winter Person! LOL! I love your flowers. Can't wait to have some in my garden again.
Thanks Becky, yes GMV is the same as Violet Sun Smiles. At least I can't tell any difference.
Your Fuji no Sora is beautiful as are all your vines.
I love the Silver Wolf and no Izumi blooms
side by side.
Great pic of the Zebra Swallowtail. 1st time I've ever seen one.
Helena, Your blooms are all lovely. Beautiful Sazanami blooms
Mine did something similar yesterday or the day before.
Changed to this bloom with the wide white throat
Very pretty Debra. Love that pale blue and the white is a beauty too.
Debra,
I love the white one.
Helena - Direct sowing is probably the best way to go! We protect those baby seedlings and then find out all that work may not have been necessary at all! They survive just fine in the ground! LOL! I just wish I had decent soil to do in-ground plants! (sigh)
Helena & Jackie - I like the funky blooms y'all are getting on Sazanami! Perhaps they are crosses or something else is going on internally with those vines! Crazy blooms, but oh so pretty! I love your Fuji no Monet bloom, Helena! Those wide rays look awesome! :-) :-)
Debra - What???!!! Where's your paint brush??? You need to help those blooms produce babies! LOL! Your blooms are beautiful! Does the white one have a name?
My solid color bloomer today. :-)
Dang that bloom actually hurts my eyes when I click on it! It looks better in real life. ;-)
I am burning the late night oil ... I am doing the teenager thing ... staying up till the wee hours of the night and sleeping till noon! LOL! Well, not really ... I took a nap earlier and now I'm wide awake! :-D
I'm trying to grow a morning glory using the cordon method, making the vine very dense to make the largest and best quality flowers l have ever made like gardeners do to sweet peas. I let the plant grow 7 leaves and pinch back if neccesary and keep the most rubust shoot and remove the rest including flower buds and repeat this pocess for how many times as I can. I know japanese gardeners go to different measures to stress their mgs to produce large flowers. many plant and flower enthusiats also go to different measures to produce the largest and higher quality flowers. My ultimate goal is to restrict all the plant's energy to 1, 2, or 3 flower buds and let nature takes it's toll.
Here is Early call pink, i. nil, trial 1
Tony
