Recent google search on growing strawberries uncovered the advantages of planting fall strawberries (strawberries by the following Spring, better plant health, etc.) and that many of the commercial growers do fall plantings. Sounds great, I'm ready, but where on earth do you buy the plants? Local nurseries think you've lost your mind wanting to buy berries in September. Anybody know an online or catalogue source? Thanks in advance.
planting fall strawberries
I got mine from Gurney's. (Whopper strawberry collection) I planted them a year ago last fall, and just let them make runners and fill in last summer. This year they are doing GREAT! We have tons of berries, and they are super sweet.
Thanks much for the heads up, will try them..Tend to forget in a small community sometimes doing ANYthing different is considered radical.
Can you just start seeds? I like seeds, maybe I'm crazy.
