What is wrong with my buddleia? partial blooms, mostly dead

Allen Park, MI

Last year my buddleia was blooming great tho it suffered through a hard winter. (Michigan)
This year after a mild winter, it exploded and got HUGE, some of the blooms are about a foot long, except most of the bloom is dried up dead w/only a few flowers left at the tips.

Any idea what's going on? The leaves look good, lots of new branches, some new blooms coming on but not the normal staying power of previous seasons with bloom life.
I water once a week during dry hot spells.

If I were to post a picture the bush looks great except the majority of the bloom is dead save for a couple inches at the tip. It is a Nanho blue if i recall correctly, a definite lavendar color.

Doesn't sound like anything to be concerned about - as long as the plant looks healthy overall, just deadhead the ugly dead blooms to make it prettier and promote reblooming. It's been brutally hot and dry, and I'm finding that a lot of the blooms on my plants have faded a little faster than in past years.

Thank you for the reply Holly. I found another Nanho I know to be in perfect health and see that it's now doing the same thing, must be too stinkin' hot. So now I'm not so worried about the other one, it does look very healthy otherwise.

It's very upsetting that despite what blooms it has is not bringing as many butterflies as in the past. Even the hummingbird is ignoring them.

I have had a problem with Spider Mites on mine. If you are having dry hot weather that might be the problem. I even found the webbing that comes along with a severe infestation.

Grasshoppers have been eating all the big older leaves off my Nanho Blues. They keep putting on new growth and small new leaves. They sure look sad with nothing but new small leaves and small blooms. Still alive and blooming for now.
