Your yard looks fantastic, mbabbitt. :)
What is in full bloom right now? JULY 1st - JULY 15TH 2010
You must be north of Bothell somewhere. I lived in town next to the cemetary. I also lived in Canyon Park near the shopping center. I love Bothell even today. The best small town atmosphere in Seattle area!
This is going to be my most favorite home in Alaska. I just bought it today. Long hours sitting at the wheel house sailing in the warmth of Alaska heated cabin. Hours of curling up by the heater reading about sailors who have lived aboard their floating homes.
Oooh. Nice boat! :)
Wow! So you're keeping it up there? Your wife is gonna need a lot more than a massage chair this time, baby.
Beautiful boat. Congratulations and great sailing.
Actually desperate seller with no sailing ability. No maintaince and no brightwork. I shall have a project for the next two years. The inside is very nice. They just used it to stay at the marina. And a couple of small trips. It will primarily be my "Man cave" in AK. I decided not to buy property and lay out $100,000 plus for a cabin. Instead just $25,000 for this project. And this is my waterfront property.
Good score!
My friend says 'boat' stands for 'bring out another thousand.' LOL
I would have a boat in a second, if the husband would let me. How can you live in a place like this and not have a boat is what I want to know. Jim is SO boring!

We fight with our sons over physical possession of our ski boat - at times I consider just gifting it to them, but then we go out on the Sound and, like Gwen, cannot imagine living in this area without some sort of flotation device. We are, however, considering a second purchase of a smaller crabbing/fishing boat and letting the boys duke it out with the ski boat (an inheritance, so the only investment has been gas & maintenance/repairs).
I know the cost of sailing/boating. I have had probably over 40 boats and each one to me has been an adventure. I sooooooooo enjoy sailing that that has consumed my life for the last 30 years. Off to another adventure in Alaska motorsailing. One thing I know is I cannot stay away from water and live.
Anybody need a Boston Whaler 15' with a brand new 40 hp 4 stroke. Selling to get the other boat. $5600 with trailer.
I have a flower bud on the persian sheild. I do hope it is blue.
Hope you get the bloom you desire Willow. Here is a lovely bloom from my Buddleia. They have really gotten big.One is pulling down the small trellis that suported it last year and the other was blocking the side gate. Had to cut it back yesterday so the gardner could get the lawn mower inti the back yard. Still have many blooms to enjoy.
Wooooo... Bea, your place looks awesome! :D
Gorgeous! I love your garden shed. Love love love the curved door. So envious of that whole shed and also your amazing yard. I bet people slow down when driving by to get a better look!
Pony, I just planted some rudbeckia yesterday. I love it. I hope it ends up looking like yours!
Mbabbit, Your yard is beautiful and I adore your daylily bed! Isn't it so satisfying when things actually mature and put on a show that makes you catch your breath? Nice stuff!
Sofer, your delphs are as beautiful as I expected them to be. The rest of your blooms are beautiful as well. I swear I have never seen healthier plants! I totally approve of your choice for your Alaska retreat.... awesome idea! Not only do you have the mancave that you were looking for, but when you have down time, you have the perfect transportation to explore. Good job!
Bea, every time I see pictures of your yard I am just in awe. You have so much beauty going on that it almost boggles the mind (definitely boggles the eyeballs!).
Pony, What a cheerful rudbekia patch! How pretty it will be when it is in it's full glory!
I wish mine would hurry up and grow!
I'm pretty sure I have more seeds of those rudbeckia if anybody wants them. I love the orange and brown on them. :)
Thanks, Rarejem. My garden is one of those things in life that gives me a sense of accomplishment and fulfills my love of color and livingness. It's sometimes more challenging than I'd like -- all of the rain and slubs and rot of this year was hard -- but when a neighbor or visitor drives by slowly and waves, it warms one heart and provides some hidden sunshine. My dahlias are beginning to bloom in earnest and as the ephemeral daylily extravaganza gives way to the mid summer turnaround, I will enjoy the relative long lived color of dahlia blooms. But man, those daylilies this year were winners.
Yes on the rudbekia seeds. Save them for the next round up! I'm sure lots of others will want some as well.
Well, who knows when that will be... I found the seeds, and I have enough left to give two people a small packet each. I can mail them- they can go in a regular envelope because they're tiny seeds.
If anybody wants a larger amount, I got these from cheapseeds.com- they're listed as "Gloriosa Daisy" on his site. Jeff's not real big on either latin names or cultivars. hehe.
They're perennials, right? If I put them straight into the ground, would they grow enough to overwinter, do you think?
They are perennials. I scattered the seeds spring before last, and some bloomed the first year, some didn't. (I think that's because they were too crowded, I didn't thin anything out in that bed, so they had a hard time growing) I'm pretty sure you can direct sow these in the fall and have them do fine.
That didn't answer your question... LOL
If you started them in the summer, yeah, they probably would grow enough roots to keep them alive over winter. They grow pretty quick, it seems.
Okay, send 'me on then! You should have my address in the DG roster, but I'll dmail it to you anyway just to make it easier. Thanks!
Okie Dokie. I'll drop them in the mail in the next couple of days. :)
I scattered gloriosa daisys in a bed twelve years ago and they are still coming up. Love them. Just leave the seed heads on during the winter. I 'planted' them early in the year and had tons bloom the first year.
Bea, that picture of the daylily with your dogs is just awesome!
Well, I am a couple of days late in starting the new thread, but the garden was calling me this weekend, so time was spent outside rather than on the puter.
Here it is better late than never........
