What is in full bloom right now? JULY 1st - JULY 15TH 2010

Seattle, WA

Papaver somniferum. I planted a bunch of these from seed as well, but didn't get a good picture of the whole of them in bloom. Fingers crossed for reseeding.

Okay last one - the nasturtiums are seriously happy.

I just love campanulas. Some people find them invasive. I wish! Julie, yours with the brunnera is a really pretty combination.

Kymmco, your garden must be in full bloom. I also really like the drumstick aliums. Mine aren't as far along as yours as they don't have much purple on them yet.

Really like the lavatera barnsley. I have the perfect spot for that color combo!

Today I went on an NPA 'field trip' to Little and Lewis (have a plaque I'm longing for), Mesageo, Dragonfly (Heidi was not there) and -- blanking on the name, the one beginning with S that's near Heidi's. Very fun day!

Kymmco, I have crocosmia envy- I planted some last fall, and there's no sign of it now. :( Yours is wonderful.

Pony, you can't be serious! That stuff is impossible to kill!!! Last year I dug out a huge clump and threw it on the lawn. It grew there. Then a friend, not knowing I didn't need any, brought some over in a large black plastic garbage bag. She dumped it by the front gate. This was last year as well. It's still there and is growing out of the black garbage bag. I'll go out and put your name on it tomorrow! LOL

Of course the Queen Anne's Lace she brought me, which I desperately wanted and so carefully transplanted into a pot and also some into the garden, did not come back at all. Should have left it in the black garbage bag!

You know while Lucifer is doing well, I've actually struggled with the orange crocosmia that I have in the backyard - at the same time my neighbor is in Gwen's situation, pulling out buckets of the stuff. I think the difference may be that both Lucifer and my neighbor's plants are in full sun at the top of fairly dry banks, while the plants in my backyard are in partial shade and better/moister soil. I wonder if they prefer to be fairly dry and neglected?

I knoooow- I thought Lucifer was foolproof... but not against this fool, apparently! LOL!

Kymmco Love the Drumstick Alliums the daylilly and the Papaver somniferum! Your space is exploding with color...nice!!!
Pony beautiful pic of the campanula.
Julie love the new DLs How thrilling!

Kymmco - thanks for the lovely tour of beautiful blooms. I have several clumps of Lucifer and also find it very robust. I rarely water, so maybe they do like it a bit on the dry side.

Okay- can't resist another shot of the campanula today...

Campanula 'Dickson's gold' has a funny ring-around-the-middle style of blooming. I find it a bit odd looking but the leaf color I like the rest of the year.

That's really trippy looking, Holly! I like it. :)

OMG- Willow, the purple leaf on the left of the rosebud made my heart skip a beat... LOL! What is it?

And a close-up from the shady side.

OH, I found my tiny campanula and then forgot to get a picture of it.

Ohhhhhh... I'm in love. ~swoon~

It's an annual but I'm going to treat is as a houseplant this winter and try to get some starts. I really love it too and had the same reaction when I first saw it.

(Pony) Lakewood, WA(Zone 8a)

I saw people were having success with it as a houseplant in the plant files. It sure is a beauty- that color is absolutely stunning.

Vashon, WA(Zone 8b)

And the stunning "iris by the pond" I must know her name....

Pony, Glad the dl's are doing well for you. I really like the campanula/dianthus combo... the colors look beautiful together.

Holly, I really like your campanula! It is very unique looking... kind of reminds me of the angels in Sandra Kuck's artwork... the ones with the glowing curls and the floral wreaths around their heads.

Willow, your yard is looking fab! I have been successful in overwintering persian shield in a pot in the greenhouse, and so has Mom. I was too late to save mine last year, but your photos reminded me that I need to get another.

Linda, Dad's daylily looks like it is going to put on quite a show for you. Can't wait to see it as the summer progresess.

I wasn't thrilled with the heat this weekend, but the garden sure was. Of course, I will start out with my daylily bed that just exploded on Saturday morning....

And I posted Swirling Spider before, but it is just one of my absolute favorites. One thing that the picture doesn't show is that these flowers are about 8" in diameter....

More pics of japanese iris.... They have just gone crazy in the last couple of years and make a stunning display along the creek.

These clematis seedpods looked so soft I wanted to reach out and pet them.

And last, a few more of my daylily seedlings... there are a few that have been blah, but some I am very excited about. Here are a few of the pretty ones from the weekend.

This one, the dogs broke the scape off chasing a mole (got the mole at least) so it had it's first bloom on my kitchen counter. Am kind of bummed because it was very pretty, and I doubt any more of the buds will open for me in the house.

This one is a really unique color... almost a cherry orange that grabs your eye from across the yard...
