I posted this on the NE forum also.....
Seems I always have a lull in the action...everything blooms then nothing...everything blooms then nothing...that's what kinda going on right now...I have blooms here and there nothing that makes any statement...
Just trimmed all my yarrow, I only have 1 daylily blooming right now, roses, hydrangea, lobelia, viola, rudbeckia, crape mrytle, butterfly bush and anthemis
Sounds like alot if I had a 10X10 garden but spread out over almost an acre...not working
So sad :(
I am still trying to get a 3 season thing going in my blue and yellow and white garden, waiting for asters to start but that is more fall...not all the seed from the Forget me Nots took so I only have a couple of those blooming...I do have the Grace Ward Lithodora blooming but that is a ground cover and can't see it from a distance...the only thng going on right now is yellow...sheesh someday I may have all 3 colors blooming at the same time...My Centaurea blue cornflower didn't come back this year...hmmmmmm wonder what happened there???
July Blooms
Jen,
Plant some heliotrope next year. They bloom almost until frost--and nothing can be bluer than they are.....
Also, my blue Wave petunia, in a HB (some shade) is blooming away. I have to water it almost every other day, though. That pro Mix they use just dries out like crazy!
Nothing is doing really good--as you said--it is the heat! My blue Bellflowers are hanging in--but they weill be done soon...
My Cleomies are going gang-busters.....NOT really blue--but kind of purple.....
My triple. purple Datura plants (two) are doing great as well....
The yellow ones got some kind of yellow virus-looking thing going on the leaves....NOT doing anything at all....
Waiting for my big Brug to open all her buds.....Don't even know the name----but they will be a deep pink...
OK! Gotta get ready for work....Gita
looks like black currant swirl to me Gita

Heliotrope is an annual???
onewish--
The name has never actually been resolved....Black Currant looks very much like mine, or mine looks like Black Currant. I do not think it is....I just call it Tripple Purple and White Datura Metel
In the first years, it never bloomed so tripple, nor does it do it every time now.
I grow it from seed every year--so past and present should not be an issue....
Was going to post a pic--but I am at work and it is not working....
Gita
I read you can overwinter heliotrope inside Jen.. I am going to try it
pretty whatever it is Gita
onewish---
It was of my heliotrope--of course.....but the work computers do not have access to My Documents/My Pictures...so--NO GO!
Now i can't find it........but i did post it earlier.....
Jen, know what you mean. I had cornflower once , I think thats annual anyway though-? Got a white Snapdragon blooming. Sparse here too. I am gratefyl for my coleus color and a few annuals--Salvia coccinea Coral Nymph and Fire__(something red) are just starting up and should bloom till frost. Perennial geraniums are not happpy this summer. Even tho we've had rain, when I dig the ground below is dry. Second wave of blooms just opened on Brugs, it will smell heavenly tomorrow!
Another blue candidate for you, jen, would be leadwort/ Plumbago. I got some from a DG in Arizona and it grows well for me here too. Very blue blooms on a low spreading plant, foliage colors red in fall is nice too.
have a great trip... lovely bloom!!!
Wonderful! Hope you have a great trip. And you'[d better stop by if you're driving through town on your way!!
Wow! Thank you all for sharing the photos. I was out of town for more than 2 weeks in the first half of this month when the weather was the hottest. As a result, the garden looks pretty sad now :-( A couple of things are blooming, including a South African Foxglove from Gita (thanks, Gita). The Joe Pye Weed has loads of butterflies on it.
Catbird, very proud of your baby lipstick plant. I have rooted cuttings many times over the years, but never had flowers so soon. Great job! When you eventually move the plant to a larger pot, make sure the next pot is no more than a couple of inches bigger than this one. This plant likes root bound. If the pot is too big, the plant won't bloom until it is big enough to fill up the pot. Here is a pic of the mother plant. I gave it a severe haircut a month ago, but it will grow back. Let me know if anybody wants cuttings.
I know I don't always look for new threads, so I thought I'd post here too... I started a new thread in this forum to ask if anybody knew where to go for cocoa mulch in Hershey, PA (a friend is visiting there next month and then driving down to see us). I'm sure everybody carries it, but somebody must have cheaper larger bags. Here's the thread: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/1119595/
Thanks!
Oh, and more on-topic... My phlox has been blooming away, despite the heat, despite the lack of water... what welcome pops of color here & there! :-)
That's a stunning photo!
I'm afraid to show your big lipstick plant to my little pot of cuttings (which is doing well!)... they'll get a complex! Thank you for sharing that lovely plant. :-)
Safe trip Ric and Holly!!!!!
Hershey may not have those coco beans in Hershey anymore. They moved to Mexico. That is where the Hershey goodies are being produced. The hulls follow the production.
These are a closer-up of blooms from the Oxalis "Iron Cross" bulbs I got from Jills "Group purchase".....
They sat outdoors, in a plastic bag, on my Patio table---all forgotten--in all this heat....
I freaked out that they may be ruined--they did feel a bit soft.....so I did plant them in 4" pots...
They shot up in a week and were blooming in a few more days.....
Now I need help------Do I bring the pots inside for the winter or leave them outside???????
Here's the blooms--macro
that datura is outstanding!!
I am drooling over that crab!!!
the anti fish thing gets me... and trauma the first ones I caught as a kid .... and brought home to my uncle who proceeded to cook them.. and I swear to this day I heard those babies scream ... NO WAY... I just told him at my sisters wedding how terrible that was as a kid
Gita, I think Oxalis Iron Cross is supposed to be hardy for us and so is Oxalis Triangularis (the purple one with a little pink in the center of the leaf)... I may hedge my bet by bringing a couple inside along with the less hardy ones I'm growing this year.
