Seed starting

Portsmouth, OH

Ok I know it is late in season, But I recently got laid off from my job and have time I need to fill. I was wondering if there are any plants you can start this late in the season that maybe provide Fall blooms or something I don't know much about flowers. I am learning more every day Thanks to this site.

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

Look for seeds whose maturity date is less than your first frost date. We have four more months of growing weather here so most annuals are okay. I know your growing season will be shorter but you should still have a lot to choose from.

Plantersville, TX(Zone 9a)

The mums bloom in the fall, & all you have to do is cut them back in the spring. They will come back in the spring. Plant ornamental grasses. They take care of themselves. You don't even have to cut them back.

Bristol, VA(Zone 7a)

For beginners, sweet alyssum and calendula are easy and quick to grow from seed and will continue to bloom even after a few frosts. In my garden, they look nice until after Thanksgiving.
