Hi all,
My mother was given an Angel Wing Begonia, in blossom, in the early 80's. She never got it to blossom again. In 2000, she passed away and I took possession of the begonia. It blossomed later that year and never again. How do I get it to blossom? This is a 30 year old plant. Has it stopped blossoming for good? Thanks for your help.

Angel Wing Begonia-where are the blossoms?
I don't have an answer to that question, but I have the same problem...Mine however is only about 5-6 years old and I've never seen it blossom. It does however grow taller every year. My tallest cane is is about 3ft. tall. I would be very curious to see the feedback on this question. V
We have several angel wings and they bloom profusely every year. maybe after 30 years the plant has just lost it's vitality. Have you tried rooting a cutting to see if it will bloom? We've actually had pieces break off when they were near to bloom and while rooting them in a glass of water they continued to bloom. Most of ours are in hanging baskets and when brought in for the winter they get a cozy spot right near one of the skylights. Out side they tend to get more afternoon sun than morning sun. As far as I know - the better half takes care of the house plants - she doesn't do anything special aside from the occasional shot of miracle grow.
I wonder if root-bound vrs. non-root bound makes a difference? Ours have been in the same pots for several many years now.
Tylersays,
What does root-bound mean?
Yes I have taken many cuts from this plant but none of the new plants bloom either.
Me too!
I've had my plant (well, not the original, but one of the myriad babies off the original cutting) for 25 years. Only one cutting in all these years has bloomed for a bit!
I really don't care about that though, since the plant is so full and lush-and the easiest plant to care for, year round.
It has always puzzled me, though. I'll be watching this thread to see what the begonia experts have to say!
Sasha
Root bound is when the roots pretty much have filled the pot and there's no room left to grow new ones. Many plants need to be basically root bound to get good blooms. The Bird of Paradise is the first that comes to mind.
