Need correct spelling of JewJew/Joubejoube Tree

Lake Charles, LA

Does anyone know the correct spelling of this Tree? It's pronouced JewJew, but spelled more like JoubeJoube.
It makes a small oblong fruit and tastes similar to an apple.

I found the correct spelling JubeJube, but it wasn't in the plant files.

OH, Jujube. It must be similar, but one of the comments said that one had thorns. Mine doesn't have thorns.
Is this a rare plant?

(Zone 7a)

I don;t know. I played with the spelling and came up with this one. There must be others out there if yours doesn't have thorns.

Yes, I have a small one that hasn't produced fruit yet. My grandmother used to have one. Our favorite thing to do was to climb the Jujube Tree and eat the fruit. The best I remember it has green fruit that ripens to brown. I had to plant one for my future grandchildren. It is slow growing and I'm wondering if it will be ready for the grandchildren. Lol, maybe for the greats.
It is a Chinese Date, and there are several cultivars.
Thanks for finding the correct spelling for me.

No problem. ^_^

I'm pretty sure that you need to have male and female plants with Ziziphus jujuba.

I'm not sure which cultivar it was that my grandmother had, but she only had one and lived way out in the country.

This guy is in Beaumont (same type of growing zone), and seems to have a lot to say about Jujube.

scroll down a bit to Jujube

I just recently purchased one. It is called an Indian Jujube - Ziziphus mauritiana.

There aren't any spines on it yet.....must still be to young to produce them.

If you are interested in getting into jujubes the person to email and order from is Roger Meyer, believe in California. I got several varieties from him.
