Aren't they annuals?

Thanks, Robin.

Question for Polly or Lucy - what to do with the JI seed heads? Cut them? Worth saving and trying to plant?? Thanks.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yes BES vines are annuals... but I grew tons of them this year.. some took off... and some just sitting idle

the one AGA I am happy about that returned is that summer glow (yellow).. looks like it's happy now too

Here's the same area just 2 years ago. I like looking at old pictures. It encourages me to see how much things have grown!

how cool is that frog shot!!!!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor, the seeds of JIs are worth trying. Some of the best JIs have come from bee pollinated pods. Harvest the seeds when the pods turn brown and start to crack open at the top.

South Hamilton, MA

Victor The seeds should dry in the pod until it starts to split open. Unless you have an area for seeds, I wouldn't bother. You would do better cutting the stem & letting plant energy go into making a larger clump next yr. Talk to Polly before doing anything.

South Hamilton, MA

OK she says try--choice is yours!

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Isn't that funny Lucy!

I have not found leaving the seed pods on beardless irises hinders the growth much at all, unlike the bearded.

Split it half Lucy, half me, Victor. Save a few seeds to try. It's always fun to try. Cut the rest off.

Just to add a little something, I leave almost all my seed pods on my siberians, and cut them for arrangements in winter, and spray paint them with the kids. The really expensive sibs, I cut the seed pod and stalk off. But I really see no slow down in growth from the seed pods and stems being left on.
