I am in Texas, is it too early to plant garlic?

yup. Garlic should be planted in Novemberish. It will be ready in May.

Couldn't tell you. I got it at Wabash feed. Its an elephant garlic. Mild, but delicious. I got a good crop out of it and won't have to buy garlic again until fall sometime.
