Hi, Ohio gardener here who wants to plant strawberries now to get them an early start for next year. Is it too late in the season to plant them? Also, I cannot locate any plants now, any thoughts on who is likely to have them in northeast ohio?
Too late to plant Strawberries?
I see them occasionally on columbus ohio craigs list . I don't have any experience with late planting strawberries but wouldn't be afraid to try .I always water plantings heavily for a few months & they seem to do OK... I don't loose much
Since strawberries are perennial and will keep coming back every year you don't need to worry that much about planting time. If you plant them now I wouldn't necessarily expect any fruit out of them this year though. Have you tried asking at local garden centers, or checked places like Lowes/Home Depot? Those would be the best places to look. If they aren't carrying them this time of year then there's always mail order, or else you could wait until next spring when the local places may be more likely to have them.
