Would someone please explain to me what is the difference between potting soil and garden soil??
dirt
Potting soil is usually a mix of composted soil wth usually spaghum moss.
Garden dirt is usually jusy plain dirt sometimes amended with fertlizer, natural or chemical.
When we started a new garden some years back, We added chicken litter, sawdust and plowed it again and again. Is great gardening dirt now. At first it was all clay.
Hope this answers your question.

Thank you cando1 for answering my question. I love "Dave's Garden" but have to admit I am lost most of the time. But I keep going back to it. I will figure it all out eventually.
The more you use Dave's the better you will like it. There are a lot of knowledgable people on here that don't mind sharing what they have learned. You'll also find out that you know some things that will help others. Gardening whether flowers or veggies, is an ever learning experience. A side benefit is you'll make some really neat friends, literally from around the world.
Jim is so right. Just look around and find what you're intrested in and post a few times and you'll have new friends.
There's a midwest forum that has people from ILL.
Everyone has been real patient and sweet to answer my questions, and i can think of some deuces. I've also made some good friends here.
If you have a pet, the pet forum is great.
It does take awhile to learn to navigate around but with a little practice it gets fun.

I've traveled all over Dave's and the forums I always come back to are the Beginner Forums. People on these forums are the friendliest and most helpful of all.
Jim, I love it here too. Come check out Accessable Gardening forum. We're a friendly bunch.
