Propogation ?

Fouke, AR

Help, I'm new to gardening and would like to start trying to propogate some of my favorite plants. Namely my crocosmia 'lucifer'. How do I remove the seeds properly? Is there anything special I should know, do, or add?

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Hi, BloomingLate, sorry I don't know the answer, but if nobody shows up here to help you, try posting this in the propagation forum:

I was thinking the Crocosmia made bulbs or tubers. They might also make seeds.

Crocosmia will work their own magic underground. I think they're called corms. Mine have more than tripled in number in about 3 years. If one doesn't dead head or cut the blooms, they will also set seeds.

according to the propagation of this plant from daves garden you can divide the croms and also you can collect the seeds they produce

Dublin, CA(Zone 9a)

If you divide the corms, the plants you get will all be the same as your original 'Lucifer'. If you get seeds and grow from those instead, some of the babies may look like Lucifer but it's not guaranteed. So if you love the exact look of Lucifer, dividing is probably a better method.
