Source for plastic nursery pots

Lake Charles, LA

I need an economical source for plastic nursery pots?

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

Maybe craigslist or freecycle?

Try a local landscape company. When a job is finished, they bring the empty pots back to their office/yard and throw them in a dumpster. They may let you stop by at the end of the day when the crews are clearing out their trucks. I got 100's of pots that way.

Wow!

I have always been given as many as I wanted by my local nursery - they always have plenty of one and three gallons. When you get to the larger sizes they will often charge a nominal fee, but still nothing close to buying them new.

I went to one of the local nurseries and they charged me 18 cents for used 1 gallon pots and 35 cents for some 2 gallon pots. Anything smaller than 1 gallon was free.

I also went to Lowe's and was told to call early in the morning and speak with the head horticulturist. It maybe a matter of timing with them.

I found some smaller pots by the road to be thrown away also. I'm not embarrased to pick them up, lol.

You might try Salvation Army. I learned purses make some good smaller planters. I've got some petunias in One and will do more next year.

There was a pic on on of the forums a few months ago. It was hanging on a tree. It might have been on the container forum. I will try to find it.

Chicago, IL

I never knew stores/nurseries give out pots. I have about a few empty plastic 1lb. folgers containers lying around that I spray painted and used as planters. I left them plain & one solid color but I guess you can decorate them if you wanted.

Good idea.

Post a message in your local grocery store, church, twp office, asking for pots, people like to recycle. I have folks stopping by my house, since I let it be known that I was looking for some.
