I have recently planted 2 bluelberry bushes. I soaked them with the hose for the first 3 days and have now extended my drip system to accomodate them. I am giving them 1/2 gal. per day (1/4 every 12 hrs.). Is this enough water? Should I still soak them once a week? My soil is rocky and then clay below that. I dug large holes and mixed acidic compost 50/50 with the original soil (I also removed all rocks). Thanks for the advice.
Watering Blueberries
I don't think you can overwater them as long as the holes don't hold water like a sink.
I never plant blueberries or anything else in the Ericaceae in holes. I plant mine on berms of 1 part peat moss, 1 part pine fines, and 1 part really good loam. You could probably skip the loam and they might do OK. I then mulch with pine needles. I never have to worry about overwatering. I had some awesome berries this spring.
Thanks. As long as I am not doing something obviously wrong I will just go with it and see what happens. I am one of those guys who frequently misses what seems to be obvious to everyong else.
Hey. I'm one of those guys, too. It takes me way too long to figure out a better way. And then I want to kick myself for all the time I wasted.
