What is this vine overtaking my garden?

Hebron, KY

Hi! I live in a new subdivision (four years old) and have had trouble with this vine each summer -- it was only a small problem at first, growing up the pine tree in my front yard, but now it's spread to my main gardens and threaten to smother my plants unless I rip it out once a week or so.

It's extremely fast-growing -- at first I thought it might even be kudzu, but from the images I've seen of kudzu, it doesn't look too much like it. I live in Zone 6A (northern Kentucky) and have attached a photo of it here. I hate to kill it because, as you can see from the photo, if you let it go long enough, it produces beautiful white flowers. It doesn't make me itch or anything when I handle it. It climbs up my house and over top of my existing plants, which I would imagine is harmful for them.

I'm dying to know what it is, and any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Would roundup help?

Highland Heights, KY(Zone 6a)

Welcome to DG from another northern Kentucky resident! (Campbell county) Yep, looks like some kind of bindweed, also known as wild morning glory. It wraps around everything in it's path. It will entwine itself so tightly over, around, and through all your other plants that it will be hard to remove!

You could always plant some in a hanging basket if you like it. There are plenty of wildflowers (weeds, depending...) I like, too!

I have to agree with KyWoods here as well. Convolvulus arvensis.

Isn't there a blue wild morning glory?

Omaha, NE(Zone 5a)

abby- it will take over everything in it's path, and then some. cut it short, but leave enuf to spray w/ roundup as the roots can go down several feet and you'll never get rid of it by pulling. I've seen this stuff take over and smother mature trees. Really, now is the time to kill it!
