How do I do this? I know the 'fridge works, but do I put them in moist potting soil first? Also, can I keep some for next year or should I plant now so the perennials will bloom next. I just ordered some seeds and they should be delivered any day now. The lady told me I should keep them chilled until mid-September. I'm in zone 8b and so lost! LOL
Pre Chill or Cold Stratisfying seeds...
Yes, the seeds MUST be placed in a moist medium (soil, vermiculite, peat, whatever) so that they imbibe water. Exposing dry seeds to varying temperature (e.g. cold temps in a refrigerator, cold room or outdoors) has no effect towards accomplishing stratification.
Another thing... are these seeds that actually require stratification in order to germinate? If they aren't, you will just end up with a bunch of prematurely-sprouted seeds, which may not be what you want in your climate.

Yes, some of them do require it as per the growers directions. I'll cross reference just to make sure. Got some trays today. Thank you.
