I'm a fledgling gardener and pretty ignorant on bamboo, but there are some versions of it that are absolutely beautiful and I've got a spot that seems to be perfect for it. If anyone could make a recommendation on what type of bamboo to get that meets the following criteria, you would make my life so much easier! I've been searching online for days and am overwhelmed by the options as well as having difficulty refining the information to what I need.
- mostly shade
- generally moist most of the time (path of water flow in our backyard)
- large culm diameter (2"+ preferred)
- shorter growth (20ft max, 15ft would be perfect)
- clumping/non-invasive
- evergreen
- central Texas climate
- rocky soil
The above criteria may be naive and unachievable, but figured I'd ask for the ideal. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Bamboo help
Here's a website that may help you--it tells you if it's runner/clumper, how tall it gets and how big the culms are when grown in its native environment (this is an important detail--your climate is probably a little more challenging than their native environment, so they may not grow that way for you). They also list minimum temperatures and how much sun they need. Keep in mind that their summers are cooler than yours, so in your hot climate they may be happier with a bit more shade than what they list here. You can browse through a list, or they've got a custom search that'll let you narrow down the sun/shade, etc. http://www.bamboosourcery.com/bamboo.cfm
Thanks for the reply! That search feature is exactly what I was looking for. Unfortunately, it proved that I can't have everything I want, so I'll have to start shopping for the next best thing.
