Great colors, Pat and Allison. Love the pink geranium and the delph.
Yes, Rama - it's a Hydrangea serrata.

Allison, what is Cherry Brandy? I like it!
great shots everyone. we are in the midst of paving our driveway and have restricted access to some parts of my yard. Butterfly bush starting to get color, hollyhocks in full bloom and the gardenias are in full bloom, the sweet aroma wafting thru the screen door, heavenly.
sounds nice.
I am having the carpets cleaned after 3 years of tramping mulch into them ,comming in from the garden to the computer.Guess I wont be able to get to the computer for the rest of the day.
Allison I can't believe that DL bloomed already! Nice on the Cherry Brandy, I never did plant mine...guess I better get to it!
Pat I had 'Lady Stratheden' for 2 yeras and lost it last winter, I loved it!!
Nice Ge, im waiting on a few lilies too.
Nice looking shrub Bill, hope you get the info you need.
JoAnn that is a very pretty lily. I do love watching new plants bloom for the first time. Very nice.
Nice shots Venu. I like the calla, mine are far from blooming still. Your hydrangea make a nice combo. Love all the different colors.
Congrats on first JI bloom onewish, worth waiting for.

lots of lillies - nice
ohhh yes and hundreds more to come.
its crazy
Pretty lilies and garden beds JoAnn. I snagged a couple slugs on one of mine this morning. Mostly buds here still except early asiatics.
You're breaking my heart with those lilies, Jo, although I will have a few the beetle hasn't totally killed. Pat, I love the deep red rose...hope you like Honey Perfume, it's well-named! Weeze, the hydrangeas just fit that spot! And the Beni just glows.....so does your dogwood, Bill...it has nice variegation. And Allison, great iris, love the deep color.
Lilies are just starting.I must have planted over 200 bulbs since last fall and early May so I am expecting more.
Slugs are a problem here too.One drilled a hole in a bud,the poor thing bloomed with half petals.
Beautiful Ge, love all the lilies. It's going to be an explosion of color once they start to open!!!
Hope its not tooooo much. I dont want the "Diannas Funeral" look.lol
Anyone read today's article? http://davesgarden.com/guides/articles/view/2907/
I won't be around to see the end result, but sounds like a plan to me--you certainly have what it takes! Now get busy!
Melody will take care of whatever we pick. I have already asked her. I would rather we pick it ourselves. The problem is choosing one (or making a 'blend' of a few) photo to be an iconic shot of the NE.
I thought it might be easier to let "new eyes" choose from your submissions, but if you want to do DIY, I've seen some beautiful pics, including New England scenery, here in the past few months, and there are some excellent collage designers here. I'm sure a lovely banner is very doable^_^
This is different from a collage, however. They have to blend into each other. One photo would be much easier, but what season?? I think fall colors are recognizably northeast, but do we want to see fall colors all year? Statue of Liberty would be iconic, but not garden-related.
i would prefer a foliage shot of some sort - not a statue - maybe a rustic shot from a field in VT with a NE rock wall for a back drop.
I like fall colors too, as long as people don't mind seeing it all year. No rocks though.
i can not accept a picture as a banner without an old NE wall - it is what we are known for.
Really?? You think of walls when you think of the northeast? I think the tourist industry might differ. ^_^
Lighthouses come to mind, and, I can't believe I'm saying this, but...rocks! NE is known for stone walls, old barns(perhaps surrounded by a field of wildflowers), and bodies of water with rocks, stones, lush green woodland vegetation. And who doesn't love a historic home with an English garden in front(usually with a stone walkway-LOL). I know I've seen all those things on this forum in the past year. I'm sure some others have thoughts... and the photos to back them up. Perhaps there could be separate banners for each season--just like DG offers. Anyway, I saw today's article, and remembered the prior discussions here last year--just trying to help--did not mean to hijack this thread.
I asked about separate banners and was told no.
Ha-ha Bill--knew I felt your rock vibes! LOL
Perhaps a village common with bandstand/gazebo and garden and maybe a bench. And yes a stone wall around it with walking paths. Maybe a spring scene since that is when it all begins. Even the cities have a form of these in the northeast, Boston Common, Central park and almost every small town in one form or other. Maybe one or two of the artists here could paint a scene moving from one season to another if a photo will not do.
I think a painting might be a good idea. I'm fine with whatever the majority feels, but I think town commons, though beautiful, are not peculiar to the northeast. Neither are stone walls. This does not mean I do not like them. Just don't think they are distinctively northeast.
