Silverslayer, you might want to start by googling "growing veggies in Florida" or "container gardening" or "growing tomatoes" or "planning a vegetable garden" and do the same on You Tube to get basic ideas on what will work for you. You could also go to a local nursery, not a big-box store, for advice. You might check the on-line archives of your local newspaper for gardening articles. There is a lot of info available to help you narrow your choices. Good luck.
We have just finished up with the tomatoe, since it is getting too hot for it. Tomatoes need to be planted in early, early, spring. As soon as the last frost, or freeze. June is getting too hot for them. This is a warm weather crop. Cucumbers are usually planted with the tomatoes. They are beginning to fruit now. You could still plant them & the peppers. They will grow till the cold weather kills them.
Did you find any thing out or did you deside to leave DG ?

Silverslayer, gardening in Florida is in a class by itself. The heat and humidity, the soil (or, more often, sand) quality leaves a lot to be desired. When I lived in Plam Beach County, I had the best luck with containers, big ones. I used the big buckets from the dollar store, maybe 30 gallons or so. They give you a soil level tall enough to to make them easier to tend, and while you have to keep them watered, you can start with really good soil (potting soil)+compost worked for me).
Peppers would still work, they love heat, and they should produce well even thru the summer. Even things like zucchini might make it with TLC. You can start seeds in August to plant outside in Sept/October, which is really a good time for you to grow the tomatoes, cukes and other things.
Mighty Slick Trellises, Sgt....
Sgt, you have never mention how you water your garden. Do you have some sort of irriagation system?
behillman,
The Good Lord above takes care of that on this one .
it is 80X150 the little one at the house i water with a hose but it is smaller .
we live in a valley weged in between two Mt's and get rain about every day or every other day most of the time.
very few days go by that we do not get rain at most a week might go by but the soil retains the moistur well so the plants do not suffer at all .

Here is the Home Garden as you see it is much Smaller
Sgt,
You ever considered square foot gardening (SFG)? Looks like you could get more in that same space with either SFG, or "block" planting. Just a thought...
I read once that the spring & the fall are the rainy seasons. But is the weather predictable enough to plant according to the rain seasons.I know my grandparents never watered their fields. They knew when to plant to catch the rain. Of course they probablly missed the rain by a couple of weeks or so. Could a person google the amount of rain in a certain state.
we do get more rain than most folks round us
the corn is shot and ive used every insectiside known to man,and several home remedies, nothing works and i cant see any bugs of any type.Day or night
