Sweet corn weeding question

Galesburg, IL

I am new to any type of gardening. So far all my sweetcorn looks good except for the what I thought were weeds, looks like other corn plants?? My garden started to sprout in 5 days and after 2 weeks is about 2 ft tall. Are those corn plants i'm seeing shooting up all around the place (30 or so 1''-10" tall) and if so should I transplant them to better location or remove them altogether? thanks for your help.

Did you plant them in rows or just throw out the seed everywhere? If you planted in rows then it is weeds.

Yes they are in rows, my friends dad said plant 2 or 3 seeds per hole so i used 2 in every one now each hole has 2 plants growing from it, he said that would be fine? but anyway there is for sure 2 plants growing tall where i didnt put seed and all these small ones like in picture look just like the early sprouts of the corn.

Raisem80, Corn can't grow where it hasn't been planted.

Well I wouldn't think so... here is a pic of the (weed) that looks like corn and nothing like it anywhere else in the yard. there is 10 of them all in or right outside garden fence. If not corn then can you give me a name of what it is besides weed?

I'm not good with names of weeds, but it's some type of crabgrass or the like. At this point in growth the weeds are pretty shallow and easy to pull/ hoe. The longer you wait to remove them the stronger/larger the root system is and it's harder to control. If you pull/ hoe make sure you remove them from the bed. If you leave a pile of them, they'll very likely root wherever you leave them. It's not absolutely necessary to remove them; but weeds compete for moisture and nutrients. You definitely want to make sure don't allow them to seed though or you'll have a many, many more.
It takes a while to tell the difference but if you mark your rows it makes it easier. When I first started I erred on the side of caution and let pretty much everything grow until I was sure it was a weed (try weeding a bed you've let grow all summer lol). Year after year you notice the same weeds growing and if you plant seeds every year you'll be able to id what it is.

Ps- weed right after it rains so they'll pull up easy. Hoe when it's dry.
