Jaye, you have Cmail.

(thunder)Wildwood, FL(Zone 9a)

beautiful plants Synda! hope this doctor has an answer for you !!!!
Marion, I wonder if it does not get cold enough...long enough for bee balm to be happy here???? my sister has always had tons of it in all kinds of colors up north....

on the other hand it was so cold here this past winter that one of my Persians died, the other is only a few inches tall...and Have not seen any in the stores to replace....

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

That could very well be Thunder. LOL doesn't stop me from trying to grow it though.

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Good Morning Ladies,
Synda GF, sure hope you get to feeling better soon.
We have been having beautiful weather, high 80's to low 90's and a little windy everyday. Doug is still, I think he may be going home today. Then I will be going down there on Monday and we are going to take off and go camping for 3 days. Still working around the yard. Geeze I no sooner finish with on side of the yard and it's time to weed eat and mow again.

My lilies are blooming like crazy. Here is one but can't remember the name. I need to find my disc with all my flowers on them.

I have the purple bee balm and it is just about to bloom. I have catmint that blooms so prolifically for most of the summer and the bumbles LOVE it. On thurs after my appt I will be out digging some stuff up to take to the reunion.

Thunder-I think you may be right as they do need a hibernation period.

Synda-LOVE your red bee balm-and wow-that big!!

Crissy-next time, please take a video-that sounds HILARIOUS!!LOL

Synda-HH are bi-annuals and will only bloom every other year (or are at least supposed to). The nice thing is that if you let them self seed and save some seed to put down in the off years, they should then bloom every year, just different stalks. I have my peaches and cream double blooming this year, but the rest bloomed last year.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Jaye and the rest of you, Bee Balm is drought tolerant and you should have no problems growing it. We have been between 103 and 110 for a month straight, I don't water my bee balm and it's going crazy. Are you sure there isn't something else wrong with it, like lack of fertilizer? http://www.thegardenhelper.com/Monarda.htm

Here's a pic from the other day, you can see all of the blossoms in the background. They're supposed to bloom July/August but because of the heat mine bloomed mid June, but that's alright I guess. We put mulch down in that bed last fall right before the first frost.

Synda I too have the black hollyhock. And it does take a year for them to bloom. I had planted mine last year, they grew but not very tall and never bloomed. But this year they are over ten feet tall and loaded with blooms.

Here is Suncrest

A lot of Monarda only goes to 8a-maybe that is the problem for Thunder and Auntie M...as for Tante-Crissy is right-draught tolerant and used for xeriscaping....

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Cindy-I have the most beautiful lily growing and have absolutely no clue what the name of it is. Will have to remember to take a pic..

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Okay guys, make me feel bad I am not successful with growing bee balm. :-( I will just admire all of your pictures.

Tink, I know I said I would like some of coral bells if you had enough to share but since them Kim has found a nursery in Bainbridge that has them so don't worry about me. I have plenty now and I talk to them daily so they know they are loved and will grow. LOL Yeap, I have rounded the bend finally.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Auntie M-I will just bring whatever and then whoever wants can have. I just don't want to bring any back with me is all...

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Hmm Stacey, I did not know that about Hollyhocks. Here is another one. It is by my storage shed and I don't know how the seeds got over there. The problem I have with collecting seeds is they get infested with these funny looking bugs. I looked them up last year but can't remember what they are called.

Great. Why didn't someone warn me they could be addictive!!! They seem to be doing quite well here--well so far--and that thrills me no end. Don't you overdo it digging--remember to take care of my niece and nephew!! LOL

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Cindy-I'll tell you the same I told someone about collecting Hibiscus seeds. You need to get some of the material bags like they use for weddings at Michaels or wherever. As SOON as the bloom falls off, put it over the seed pod and cinch the strings VERY tight. When the seeds are ready, either let them fall on their own or pull them off with the baggie. The material should keep the bugs out:)

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Auntie M-For me they are addicting because it is the foliage that attracts me, not the flowers. So while other things are done blooming and have the plain green foliage, these add a nice splash of color. And they are so low maintenance. I won't over do it, but need to get several things split and repotted for you all. It is supposed to be real hot and muggy here the next couple of days with SEVERE storms here Wed. night, and then less humid a little cooler on Thurs. With the rain too, I think it will make digging them way easier.

Fayetteville, AR(Zone 7b)

Hhhmm Stacey, I did not know that! Very interesting!!

(Cindy) Auburn, CA(Zone 10a)

Yes, Stacey I have some. I picked them up at the $Tree. Thanks

Same here about the foliage. Of course I have discovered the hummers love the blooms. With so much green from the original landscaping done, the colors of the leaves are my bright spots. I just got one named "Havana" but haven't had it long enough to really see how it does. Looking for one now called Quilter's Joy --several places on line had it but are sold out. I think maybe it was new this year.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Cindy, you certainly have 2 green hands!!!
I find all lilies, including the asiatics are so easy to grow. Moreover, the asiatics.. especially Casa Blanca... are so fragrant. If only the brugs are that way :(

Crissy, the bee balms are well fertilized.. mulched for the winter.. and I hope they're just 'resting' this year!! I may have overwatered them!!

Stacey, did you notice Kathy Kiz beautiful heucheras? One is to die for.. can't recall the name.

I'm not bringing any plants with me to Cookie's.. sorry folks.

Have you packed yet Maid M? I'm just starting to gather my clothes, then I realise, I don't have any pjs!!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Well haven't you tried an old t-shirt? LOL

Nope not packing yet--just got washer repaired yesterday. When it was installed they put the drain hose to far down the tube and it was back flooding the laundry room. My son came by last night and corrected the situation.

Just think it won't be long and the song of the day will be "I'm leaving on a jet plane......... " not insert car for this household.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

No-I tried to look her up, but she is in the "other" place......

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Kel won't be missing his old t-shirts!! Thanks for that idea, Maid M!

This is it.. Sashay. Kathy's lovely heuchera..I'm pretty sure she won't mind me posting it here.

Jaye it's only been raining here about once a week, if that, for about a month now with 103 to 110* heat and I don't water them, just let them deal and they're doing great. LOL I'll forget my PJ's, I always do and never realize it until I'm getting ready for bed. I completely feel your pain.

I'm not bringing anything as far as plants go to Joy's either.

Gillian that is so exciting!!!! I've never taken a train anywhere.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have Sashay, but think I planted it in the wrong place since it never gets any bigger...

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Crissy, Gillian is in Betty's thread.

Marion, your song needs to be, "On the road again"!

Now you gals better pack your night gowns or P J's. We don't need this to turn into a nudie party!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Has to be a killjoy in every group doesn't there LK? LOL

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

ROFL!!!!! That's one reason why I love LK!!!!

I know I have CRS bad.. was going "huh?" when Crissy mentions Gillian!! AND what train?? I don't mind a train ride if Cookie's offering that!! Lolol!!

Yah..like Elmer Fudd would sing.. "On the woad again"!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

On that nudie party....no way LK.. in case Tubby shows up, we sure don't want to resuscitate him!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

ROFLOL, might be more than he could possible stand!!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

But, on second thoughts.. Tubby might enjoy the 'lip' service.
Nope.. we got to think of Shirley :D

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

ROFLMAO! You girls are too much. But no, we don't need to offend Shirley!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

LK... the more reason you should book that flight to Cookie's. We need you!!!

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Hey Girls..

Your not going to offend anyone.....LOL
Mainly ME........LOL

Tubby

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Oh Tubby!!! You are incorrigible!!!
ROFL!!

(Marion) Havana, FL(Zone 8b)

Now wait--if we are having a party that means all who come have to participate--right? Ladies, maybe we would be the ones entertained--LOL

BTW 'jammies are packed--nothing else but do have those in the suitcase.

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Guess what Maid M?
My earrings do fit!!

Barnesville (Charle, GA(Zone 8b)

Hey!! Tubby.
Got fish for supper but it sure wasn't fresh caught.
Husband wants to make himself a Fish Salad.
Have a great afternoon.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Something told me he was lurking. LOL! How you doing Tubby?

Jaye, I wish I could, but so busy with appt. I went to the dentist yesterday to start the process of getting a crown on my back upper molar. I cracked a few weeks ago, and when I went for the temp filling, he told me I could make payments like before, and it would be $550.00. Well, I was sitting in the dentist chair, and the new assistant ask me if I was told how much it was going to be today. I said yes, $550.00. Oh no she said. We have changed our prices, and it will be $775.00, and half of it has to be paid before we start work. The rest must be paid two weeks later. Well, I said, I will have to come back, as I was not told of the drastic changes.
Wow! Talk about sticker shock! So I am now looking for a different dentist!

TabacVille, NC(Zone 7a)

Well Tubby is doing his "selective lurking"!!

They thought they got you, huh LK? If you have a lot of dentists in your area, there should be competitive prices.
We have one dentist in this town, and charge atrociously. We had to use the services of another in another town, who's only about 10 percent cheaper :(
Wish the vets could do my teeth!!
