Corn question

Frankfort, KY(Zone 6a)

This is Kandy Korn, a hydride, It has shoots coming out from the bottom.
Will these shoots produce ears ? If not would it be OK to remove them and let more energy go to the main stock ?

Your choice. They are called tillers or suckers depending on the locality. Removing them is fine if you wish to go to that much trouble. They rarely produce anything. On the other hand I have never noticed any improvement in yield when removing them. I suckered and thinned too much corn when I was a kid. I don't do either in my second childhood. Some cultivars are more prone to sucker, Kandy Korn is one of them.

Thanks, I didn't think they would produce, maybe I'll sucker 1/2 and see how it goes.

When I planted my corn, for the first time, I noticed the kerrnels were all shriveled up. Almost like they were freeze dried. Were my seeds old or does some corn look like that. My seeds have not come up yet, but its been about 5 days.

That's the way the corn seed looks, all shriveled up, looked bad.
Corn takes from 7 to 14 days, adv.
I soak all my large seed over night to give them a kick start, I add a drop or two of Hydrogen Peroxide to , they say it helps with any disease or mold till they get up.
My wife and I love corn but it produces so little for a large plant.
