Ipomoea pandurata

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

I can certainly see why! It's really beautiful and has grown much larger than previous years! It likes it's home in your yard! :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, It does seem to be happy here. Not too happy though or it would
have taken over everything in sight. lol.... I like the nice size display it puts on
every yr.

Gautier, MS

Very beatiful blooms Jackie. Sure worth waiting to see!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - This photo is amazing! I love the alternating mix of Pandy bloom and Youjiro blooms! What a great photo! And some beautiful blooms! :-) :-)

Mesilla Park, NM

Jackie,
I would love to get a couple of seeds from you if get any extras. I didn't have any luck a couple of years ago with the seeds, hopefully I can start some this coming year. Dmail me if you would like to trade and if there is anything you are looking for. You have done a great job with this plant, hopefully it will produce lots of seeds.

Thanks Debra, Becky and A
A, I will save you some sds and hopefully you can get a plant or two going.
Debra, hope you get some pretty blooms from Pres Bush .It's a beautiful
mg.

Mesilla Park, NM

Thanks Jackie,
That first photo looks like it has a tint of pink in it. I really like it.
A.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

A, you're right. I see the hint of pink, never noticed that before.
A recent pic, so glad to still be getting blooms

I'm hoping I can put them on one of the cattle panels, do they climb or do you have to tie them and train them along? Or are do they spread on the ground?

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

A, they climb right up the fence without slowing down. I just kind of guide them the way I want them to go. I guide one stem to the right and one to the left side
of the fence as they near the top. Then I don't interfere again. lol

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Taken this morning. This vine has made a lot of sds this yr compared
to previous yrs.

They Know they are in good company, Jackie, and happy plants make seeds! beautiful!

Mesilla Park, NM

I'll start mine as soon as I get them.. then I have to go on vacation and have DH babysit them..lol, boy will he be a happy camper.. I am going to have to treat him really good make his favorite foods.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Debra and A. Will be starting on the mail-outs for those who are waiting on these sds only. If you are waiting on other mg sds too, will be a while till I gather enough sds. :-)
Lol A, sounds like a good plan to me.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Beautiful combo of vines! That pandy is superb!!!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Becky. I've really enjoyed the pandy this yr.

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

This will probably be the last time I get this many blooms in a cluster. Pandy
is winding down now, we've already had a few nights in the 50's. The good news,
I will harvest over 100 sds this fall. I've gathered over 80 already so
a great yr of sd production. Yea!!!

Jackie - Beautiful!!!

I would love to trade with you for 3 seeds. I just sowed my last seed from you yesterday. I have the darnest luck with species MGs. I can never get them to germinate. This last batch I nicked them all and soaked them. Am hoping that does the trick!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, Will be sending you 5 sds of this one. I don't worry about the trading although you and I always trade a few sds every yr. You've always been very generous with your sds, I can do no less. :-)
Sending you a dmail

Gautier, MS

Beautiful blooms of your pandy Jackie!!

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks Helena. I'll miss this one all winter while it rests.

Montrose, AR(Zone 8a)

Oh those were some spectacular photo's.. My Dh built a dog pen about months ago and now he thinks the dog is to human to use it.. I know I will be ordering seeds and starting vines on all 4 sides lol.. Someone might as well use the thing.. hehe

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Thanks huneybunch, will send you a few sds of this one with your
other sds.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I have a few seeds of the Kansas Pandy again this year, if anyone wants any, let me know.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Just curious ... what is the difference between Jackie's pandy and Debra's pandy? Do we need to grow them side by side to see?

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Just different strains I believe.

Mesilla Park, NM

I have not started mine yet. Don't know whether to wait till Jan/Feb or go ahead and do it now.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

I am guessing that here it is best to throw them down while it is fall and leave them in thru winter. That is what happens out in the wild. So I did just that. I have two tubers vining from Arkansas already. I planted some Kansas strain in that pot already. Here is hoping for two strains in the same large pot.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

That will be interesting if you get both to germinate and grow next year! :-) :-)

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky it would be interesting to see the Ar and Kansas strains growing side by side. I don;t think you would see any noticeable differences though
A, you might start one now and.a couple more in late spring,
Debra, I would be nervous about throwing my sds down on the ground with cold weather approaching. We'll see how your sds fare overwinter.:-)

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

My thinking is that is what happens out in Burlington. They fall out and new plants emerge in the spring. I will start a few inside and see how that goes. KNPS says throw all wildflower seeds out now. I did that last year at Charlie's and they all came up.

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Obviously the seed coats are winter hardy. I wonder if Pandy's like warmer weather climates then? Do they need cold to bloom the following Spring? Has anyone grown Pandy's in a warmer section of the country?

Mesilla Park, NM

Jackie, I'll do that either today or tomorrow. There are a couple more that I want to start again since I lost half a dozen seedlings yesterday ... nice thing is now I have room for more babies..lol

Jacksonville, AR(Zone 7b)

Becky, I think if the sd coats were winter hardy, all the dropped sds would
germinate. I think we would then see a lot more pandy's blooming out in the countryside than what we see.
I think what makes them hardy is when they sprout and grow a couple of months before the cold sets in and they go dormant. The tiny tuber, already forming, protected underground, is what allows them to return the next spring. All just speculation on my part. I don;t really think that a sd laying out in freezing weather all winter is the vine that Debra sees sprouted
and growing in spring. I do think it's the one that had sprouted and grown
some before cold weather set in and it went dormant.
Now I could be all wet with my opinions. Oh well I'm old and once I
get something in my head, takes a while to change my mind. lol

(Becky) in Sebastian, FL(Zone 10a)

Jackie - You have a very good point and you may very well be correct. That would certainly make sense why there isn't more Pandy's out there in the wild.

(Debra) Derby, KS(Zone 6a)

Tell ya what, I have enough seeds to experiment. How about that>? Around here the reason you don't see them is because the construction crews overturn them as soon as they get going.
