I moved onto an acre of virgin forest land, & have been doing sections of it, planting grass in one section which took 5 years , but it looks great. We are building our own house, so we have stacks of lumber around a bit. We have sand everywhere else. The problem is, that we are trying to make our place look perfectly beautiful. Instead, it looks like a place where trashy people live. I guess its the sand part, where we didn't do grass yet. Anyway, the place looks like a place where poor people live. What should I do? Should I hire a Landscape Company? Today, I am picking up some gardening tools, & hoping to make the place look better. What do you think I should do.
I need help
I'd at least consider hiring a landscape designer to help you come up with a plan. Then you can decide if you want to execute the design yourself or if you'd rather pay someone else to do it. But they can give you a good starting point. However, as long as you're still in the process of building your house and there are construction materials, etc around, you'll need to manage your expectations of how beautiful the place is going to look--don't get frustrated if things don't look perfect right away.
I agree with the other poster about getting a plan in place. Since you have so much land, you could start now with a small section far away from the house (so that the construction won't affect it) and at least get some evergreens planted so they can start putting down roots and growing. Perhaps put in a little sitting area with a nice flower bed and some inexpensive perennials. Make it away from the construction so you have an oasis to help you get through it!
