How do I keep watermelons from rotting on the bottom before they are ripe
rotting watermelons
I've heard of some turning a foil pie pan upside down and putting it under the melon. You must be super wet for them to be rottening.
I'm trying to grow watermelon too. I have a baby one that is as large as a large marble. The last rain we had seems to have stunned it. It happened to my first yellow squash also.
lgp1236, it sounds like your soil is very soft and/or holding moisture. You may want to put a small board under the melons to raise them up off the soil. A board will allow the rainwater (if any) to wick away from the melon as well as keep air flow to the bottom of the melon.
Hope this helps!
