I swear this happened... (like 5 minutes ago)

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

Here's sumtin to put a smile on your face today.

So I was vacuuming with my new handy-dandy "cyclonic" vac, and just when i just about vacuumed up anything and everything in the house, I see one of my houseplants... Now I've run out of things to vacuum so the big film of dust on my plant's huge leathery leaves was just calling out like a magnet... Now I'm thinkin, "can I?", "no way!", "hmm I bet I can...", and "what could happen, right?"

So I did!... [crickets chirping]...

Those darn cyclonic vacuums really work! I mean, yea- I lost half of the leaves (and some potting soil) but man do they work! ^_^ (whatever's left of my poor houseplant still has dust on it just cos I REALLY don't want to kill it so i turned off the vacuum then proceeded to fish out the leaves from the nozzle)...

So here's Gardening 101: DON'T EVER- and I mean NEVER- VACUUM YOUR HOUSEPLANTS (no matter how cool your new vacuum is)! trust me please.

^_^

ROFL thanks Its always good to laugh!

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

I keep thinkin back and I can't believe I thought it would work! Sumtimes I can be such a dumba$$ about things ^_^ But hey, at least my dog thought I was doing sumtin serious- he was just staring at me the whole time twisting his head side to side, maybe sayin, "whatcha tryin to do there, mom?" ;)

Chicago, IL

lol this is too funny! just for future reference, a damp rag is just as effective ;)

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Doing something "kind of stupid", my best way of learning for future reference!

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

The damp rag method is just toooo easy-peasy!^_^ I was trying to be "inventive" and announce my feats of greatness here :-)...

(Becky) Gresham, OR(Zone 8a)

You make me feel so much more "normal" to see so many others have that brain fart from time to time. Thank you so much

Conneaut, OH(Zone 5a)

A vacuum?Never in a million years would I try something that silly.But a high pressure washer,now thats innovation!LOL,Edge

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

Sumtimes ya gots to be brave enough to be stooopid ^_^!

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

My neighbors think I'm crazy because I use the shop-vac to vacuum up rose petals that fall in amongst everything planted around the roses...but it works...so I think your idea was good !
Very funny story ! :)

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

speaking of shopvac, my DH did the same thing only for the dead leaves that keep wanting to snuggle between our pavers ^_^.
Man! I didn't think it would hoover my plant that bad tho! :-) I mean, it barely got close to it that's what's so funny (ok, and the fact that, I, used a vacuum on a plant) and it sucked it like a blackhole! Ya know how in the face of mortification you sorta just stare at it for a nanosecond? that's what i did until the other half of my brain kicked the sleeping half wide awake ^_^

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Poor plant, I have a delicate function on my vac, but would be hesitant to do my houseplants.

Boise City, OK(Zone 6a)

How fun! I hadn't thought of that but I have given them a shower, not as strenuous as trying to bathe the cat but it can get messy!

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

lol on the cat lizard :) I always wondered why i went through 3 cats in college (they always seemed to "not come back home" after I gave one a bath) so i finally gave up on no. 3 and thought, "maybe i'm just a dog person" and let it go at that. Found two of them a few months later soakin up the sun in our neighbors backyard and won't even look at me... The third one, i guess my cousin "rescued" after finding it shivering in their backyard ;)... So yea, I'm a dog person.

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

The one and ONLY time I ever bathed a cat was the ultimate disaster. I wasn't a cat person at the time, so little did I know. Suffice it to say it wasn't pretty. To say the cat was livid is an understatement. I actually thought at one point I was staring into the face of Satan himself.
3 pints of blood later.....

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

hehehe... I can just imagine the hissin and the growlin and the lucifer eyes ^_^...

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

So I heard you should put the cat in the toilet, slam the lid, flush a couple of times and run for your life!!!
I have dogs not cats! :O)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

I have 2 cats...maybe I'll use the washing machine ! It's a front loader, so I can keep an eye on things.

Ozone, AR(Zone 6a)

Well i needed a laugh right now and i did injoy it.
As a new cat owner. I can really relate and empathise. Not with the bath tho. My Miss Kitty is training me well, loudly and quickly. She expects her meals on time at her command. Water fresh at least twice a day. I am not allowed outside unless she accompanys me. The cabinet area by the sink is her domain, the one by the stove is mine. I'm allowed to use the computer as long as she is there to supervise, same with TV.
She gets up in my face. and gives me obeying hexes with her green eyes.
My life will never be the same.

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

Isn't DG fun?!?^_^ we started off with a "plant-dust" hypothesis/problem-solving anecdote and now we're on to kitty-cats ^_^ Man, somebody needs to troll our forums and start a book! who says gardeners aren't funny eh?

Yea, I've given up on cats (for one thing, I developed a "mysterious cat allergy" in college soon after my cats abandoned me) and now I'm dedicated to semi-dog puppies ^_^- just like kitties but can work those puppy-dog eyes like no other!

Cando: I'm glad you are being properly trained as a feline possession.
Just remember: Everything is on THEIR terms. Just accept it and roll with it. It's no use fighting it.

Chezca: That photo is hilarious !

Great Falls, MT

Hahaha! That's awesome! I used to vaccum my Malamute during his blow outs, but then I got a new, cool, techno-vaccum and I just about sucked a huge hole out of his coat. Poor guy, I think he had PTSD after that. Those vaccums really are superior, and oh so dangerous :-) Thanks for sharing.

Conroe, TX(Zone 9a)

Chezca,
You would be hard pressed to find a cat that would suffer the indignities of that outfit! If you did they would pull it all off by looking like it was their idea.

New Milford, CT

LOL. Always remember this golden rule:

Dogs have owners. Cats have staff. :-)

Long Beach, CA(Zone 10a)

SO true !

Hayward (Z8b-9a), CA(Zone 8b)

I used to snort at pet owners dressin up their pets... then I became one! ^_^ that was actually one of my scarves- sometimes I even put frilly hair clips/head bands on HIM (yes, my semi-dog puppy is a boy^_^). DH hates it with a vengeance ;)! He's like, "please don't do that to the poor dog!" or "take that dang thing off of him!" ^_^ That cracks me up everytime ^_^... Buuuttt, he's my buddy since I am the "master and commander" of dogfood and dogtreats in the house ;)
