I bought some shallots a week ago and put them in the root veggies drawer, but I forgot to open up the plastic bag that they were in. Now I have about a pound of shallots with roots growing.
Can I and should I plant them? Will they divide and produce more shallots or will they just grow green tops and flower?
Should I plant the shallots from grocery store?
Go ahead and plant them. It's a late start but what do you have to lose? Plant the whole bulb, not separate cloves, root-side down, 3 to 4 inches apart, 1 inch deep. Band fertilizer if your soil is poor. Then hope for the best....
Thank you, AnnieBelle. Nothing to lose is right.
Today is a great day to mess around in the garden cuz it's overcast and cool. I'll also put some of the sweet potato tops that I saved into the ground, too.
