Flea Beetles

Indianapolis, IN(Zone 5b)

I need an effective control for flea beetles (on tomatoes and eggplant). I have sevin and other insecticides and would like to hear of anyone's experience with flea beetles/various insecticides. I'd really like to find a more 'organic' solution though and want to try an alternative before I apply sevin.

Pyrethrin and Rotenone are considered organic. Both are used for flea beetle control. Sevin is effective but you might want to read the pro and cons regarding it's use. I have used it in the past on both tomato and eggplant with great results but it is deadly to bees and other polinators. When I used it it was early in the season on new transplants and used it for 2-3 weeks as new leaves developed. I discontinued use as soon as plants started to flower. I found that after the initial flea beetle infestation they seemed to not cause the amount of damage that would warrant the use of any control. It seems that here in RI that as the plants get larger they are able to stand what little damage the FB's cause.
