burnt marigold blossoms

What is going on with some of my marigold blossoms? Before they even bloom some of them seem to be "burnt". Not all of them turn out this way but I am wondering if I am doing something wrong since all of my marigold plants have this problem.

My question would be what kind of soil you have them in and are you possibly fertilizing too much? How often do you water them? I have mine in potting soil in planters with worm castings sprinkled on the surface to provide nutrients and they're in full sun and doing great. I just water them when they appear a little wilted. I fried a lot of plants last year over-fertilizing with commercial stuff and won't make that mistake again. Worm castings are completely natural and will never "burn" your plants.

I am not fertilizing them at all. My soil is a little sandy but I keep them watered well.

Its the sun. The sun must be too hot.

Maybe its not the sun. My plants look the same way. They are getting smaller instead of bigger. I think its a lack of fertilizer.

Hmmm . . . should I put some compost around them? Or do it have to dig it into the earth around the marigolds?

Just add the compost around the plant. That should act as a mulch also. Unless you want to add mulch on top of the compost.
