Transferring An Iris

Chicago, IL

I found a Tall Bearded Iris 'Superstition' in a swamp yesterday and transferred it to my garden. The base was large enough for me to split in to 3 different plants. Well, it wilted last night and was almost entirely down today. Should I just leave it alone? Will the root eventually grab or is it a lost cause?

I've transplanted 2 kinds of iris, and they both looked a bit droopy the next couple of days. I would water them everyday and they did fine. The first batch bloomed this year, the other kind (yellow), I just did this year so they didn't bloom. None died.
Don't give up on them. Good Luck:)

You should have cut the leaves back. It's in shock especially after dividing it.

It is very early for transplanting iris- the plant needs time to nourish the rhisome- ie-- the leaves to die back. July or August or even into September is a good time. In the meantime, keep it well watered and speak gently to it.

Well the part with the blooms is still standing almost straight up but the other 2 parts is just foliage and it's a bit limp. I put a few miracle grow sticks around each plant to help it along.
