Gifted with all summer hydrangea plants - help
Yes, they will definitely need afternoon shade in your climate. As far as blooming, it's hard to say--assuming you're planting them in your garden shrubs will sometimes take a year or two to get going. They'll tend to focus on their roots first, and then work on flowers. If they already had a chance to form some buds this year then they could bloom this year, if they didn't but they get established quickly then they could bloom next year. Since they're small I think it's more likely they'll wait at least until next year but you never know.
Took 3 years for mine to flower.
Def need shade for them down in LA
You also may need to water them in the afternoon if they seem to droop. A good layer of mulch helps, too.
thank you for your help!
