2010 Ruby-throated Hummingbird Vol.4

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

We have noticed that certain birds seem to prefer the different feeders. Makes very interesting watching.

and this has feeder/location has proven to be very popular! If the Bigger birds come in to get fruit or jelly the hummers just go up into the tree & wait for them to leave and then come back down.

Nice ones nanny and Burd!

My Trumpet vine and Monarda "Jacob Kline" are starting to bloom so I hope to see hummingbirds more often.

Algonquin, IL(Zone 5a)

Wow - so many great pics since the last time I was here 4 days ago!

Nanny, you're getting better & better with that new camera! That second little girl from this morning looks like she's thinking, "Wow, what is this tasty stuff I'm drinking??"

Very pretty Penstemons, ilflowers! I bet your Hummers love those.

Great shots, Burd! It's amazing how many you get.

Huggergirl, maybe you'll have some babies eventually.

Very nice shot, David! They must have been just waiting for that feeder.

Pelle, I just planted Jacob Cline this spring - still baby-size so they may not bloom till next year. I'm looking forward to it. Your Trumpet Vine sounds nice.

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Burd, that first photo is great!

Nanny, it's nice to see your hummers. Their necks are so light colored compared to our Anna's.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

That feeder is on the fruit buffet and is not in a great spot for photos. It was placed in a good spot to accommodate feeding the orioles with no squirrel or raccoon hassles. So I just have to take what I get there!

I get all kinds of things on this platform...Red-spotted Butterfly!

But Thanks!

Nice shots Nanny! How many different butterflies come to the feeder?

This male Ruby didn't stay long enough for me to get full focus.

Nanny, cute hummers and the butterfly is beautiful. Are your orioles enjoying the oranges? I gave up on mine doing anything but drinking the sugar water.

Burd, your hummers are also cute!

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Nope...some times the juvies will eat some. Mostly the red-bellied's are the ones who eat them, But I think they have had their fill for now and prefer the grapes! The BF's are enjoying the oranges now.

Sandusky, OH

Nice shots Nanny! I owe this female a big fat kiss after she posed so long for me...these are my best female Ruby shots to date.

First 2 shots are from the perch.

No.2 a tad more light would have been ideal but I got about 40 shots off, almost all with the same clarity and sharpness.

Humming Birds are one of the cutest ones in the bird world. They hop around so quickly I am amazed you all get such great photo's. I love the sound of their little wings humming along.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

COOL!!!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Don't you just love it when the hummers pose for you Burd? Awesome details in your photos! Love that bright red on the male.

Susan, I just had to put my feeder out like yours because I had so many orioles that I thought just the hummers would like this one by themselves. I'll have to keep watch and see what happens. Your little bird is cute!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

I had those orange hummers last week too !!!! It was nice to see 2 males at one time,so I have more than 1 pr yay.

Nice shots HG and Burn!!

Yes indeed! The males are a real challenge as they drink briefly and move around a lot...Ive missed some perch shots with the male's but I just have to put more time in and have been working 6 days a week plus the tree rats broke the perch again and I had to rebuild it. lol I added a shallow birdbath also.

Putnam County, IN(Zone 5b)

Rose, fabulous shot of your female!!

Our feeder is very busy....our traffic seems almost like it was the first summer here. I just don't seem to have as much time to just watch for them since my interest have broadened!

I hav been having trouble with my pics...finally late yesterday evening I remembered I had changed a couple of settings on the camera on day experimenting...and I forgot to put change them back. Will see if it helps today! D'oh

Part of my problem is now the feeder can be quite shady since it under the porch roof now.
