Just thought if you are interested in developing a garden you might like to check out Vincent Ross' posts at www.lifeasahuman.com about Bum-young Sung, the humble and brilliant creator of Bunjae Artpia, known as the world's most beautiful garden. It's very inspiring stuff.

Very beautiful, Chris....this garden looks the way I would imagine Paradise to be.
Chris,
When I was in the Army and had the opportunity to travel to Okinawa Japan I loved the little shops and villages. There were many thing to see and do in Japan I had the opportunity to give my hand a try at creating one of those little trees I often wondered if the Master Gardner that was there scraped it or let it grow ? he understood that I could not keep it because I was only there for a short time and seemed to be impressed ( not sure if he was being nice or not lol) it was a very nice old tree and had shape much like the one you have posted but the green was full and had not been cut and quite a bit smaller not sure what type it was . but I have always wondered if it lived .
Good work Chris and yes Very inspiring!
The Sarg.
