My favorite, the Hooded Oriole.
Daily Pics Vol. 326
Great shots everyone!
Burn it never cease to amaze me seeing those birds after Raptors even the magnificient Eagles. Their courage is beyond comprehension. Love the view of the swamp where the Wood ducks were taken. Duc, lovely as always, Mr. & Mrs. H.F. were fashionable.
Smart Grackles that seeks refuge at the bird bath under hot weather. Nan. I have yet gotten a shot of birds by my bird bath. I'm so disappointed. Though, the running water sound probably attracting hummingbirds to the feeders nearby.
This could be a long shot. But I 'think' this maybe one of my Carolina Wren's fledglings. It appears proportinately smaller than the adults that I've watched daily at the feeder.
You have a nice assortment of birds Lily. Love the Kingbird!
Wonderful shots everyone. I just love the Mallards, and the orioles, the kingbirds and the phoebe. Fabulous.
Duc, your Bald Eagle shots are just amazing!
2ndCousinDave, beautiful start. I love the ruffled mockingbird with the berry. At least Mockingbirds sing a pretty song. I often think I'm hearing a new bird and run out to find a mockingbird. I always want to ask him where he heard that bird.
I heard a commotion and went to find this Cooper's Hawk being chased around the yard by angry birds, mostly Blue Jays. I did not see that he had caught anything until I looked at this picture. Sorry that it's not clearer, but it was very cloudy today.
Very nice pics guys!
I would have like for these little duckling, to have been closer. There were, Goldeneye, Merganser, and possibly Mallard under a fallen tree, mingling together having a grand ole time. While a male Mallard was sunning himself nearby and a female Merganser keeping an eye out from near the fallen tree.
Hey Burd_Fotos, two things - 1) what does "Rofl" stand for and 2) nice pic of the Oriole.
nanny_56 - I always admire the iridescence of a Grackle - sweet pic. AND nice female Easter Towhee, too. AND the pic of the White-breasted Nuthatch Fledgling is a keeper.
Wow, burn_2007 - that female Wood Duck blends in nicely. Hard for me to see her.
ducbucln - your male House Finch is about as red as they come. Great capture. AND the detail of your Hooded Oriole is outstanding.
burn_2007 - seeing your pic of the Eagle being chased by those that little bird makes me wonder why a bird as powerful as an Eagle would put up with them. AND the about to be papa Robin, sure looks serious.
Lily_Love - your tinsy little bitsy backyard 'tropical garden' is really pretty. No wonder it draws the attention of others
Elphaba - I have a few Cowbird fledglings around here, I've even seen one Cowbird fledgling beg food from another fledgling - they strike me as being on the lazy side. Oh, the beg was unsuccessful.
Hack
Great shots guys/gals!!
Hey Burd_Fotos, two things - 1) what does "Rofl" stand for and 2) nice pic of the Oriole.
Hack, Rofl is short for.... rolling on the floor laughing
That shot still has me laughing..lol
Lots of babies bird all abound. I kept looking at these Eastern Phoebes and wondering if this maybe last year fledglings--now-- adult returning to its bird-place (I meant birth place)?
Elphaba, the Cardinal juvie is cute. Is the Cowbird Juvie bigger than its adopted sibling at this stage? Human can learn from these birds how to love unconditionally, can't we? LOL.
Burn,
...it's wonderful time of year ...
Hack, I don't mind at all when my pictures can be editted to improve its appearance. BTW, kingbirds are slightly larger than the phoebes. Their tails don't bob up and down (when they perch like the phoebes do) and theirs (tails) has a white strip on its tips. I happened on one of the Kingbirds' nest last week. The nest was built by a small winding creek by couple hundred yards from the Eagles' nest. So I surmise they hunt for small fish and crawlfish, tadpoles and the likes? In regard to Common Grackles siblings rivalry--it happens in the bird's world too, doesn't it? LOL
Look, this time last year the Phoebes already celebrating their second brood. I'm tickled that I'm able to record this event on DG:

Great pictures everyone. Hack, don't worry, you're not the only one that's finding out what some of these shortcuts stand for. LOL
Well, my great plan of taking down the House Sparrows' birdhouses after their young fledged has failed. My DH cleaned them out but I had to ask him to not pull them down as they were again mating right on our deck! I was afraid they'd disturb the young Tree Swallows that are still in the other houses if we took the HOSP houses away. So far I haven't seen them bringing any nesting materials in, but if they do, I'll be ready to pull it out. Here's the "R" rated photo-
The Cowbird in the Cardinal family made me laugh this morning. Cardinals get up before dawn and start looking for food before the other birds do. The Cardinal fledgling was totally in line with the program. Dad was finding tons of soft-bodied dragonflies by the pond that had just emerged from their nymph bodies and was feeding them to the begging Cardinal baby. The cowbird was sitting on the roof with the rest of the family not moving, sullen, like a teenager roused before noon. You could tell he was wondering what the heck they were doing up at that hour.
Oh and Lily, yes, cowbird is not only bigger than his sibling but also bigger than Dad. I didn't think they were that big but I guess they are.
While I was typing this, this Green Heron showed up again. He came by this morning and I was very excited to add a bird to my backyard list, but he's after the koi in one of my little ponds. I went out shopping for something for the koi to hide under. I think I may have only made the situtation worse since the heron can now perch on the addition and wait for the koi. I guess my koi's days are numbered. On the plus side, I won't have to worry about what to do with my fish when I go on vacation.
The cool thing that I learned about herons is that not only can they see through water better than other birds but they can see through windows too. I guess if your eyes are designed to compensate for the glare on water, they will also work against the reflection on windows. The birds in my yard must never have seen a heron before because they were dive bombing it like it was a hawk. Heron didn't care a bit, but if I made the slightest move on the other side of the window, he'd run or fly toward the back of the yard.
Here he is on my phone line.
Your Wren just singing away! Boys, it must be interesting watching the Cardinal raising the adopted 'kid'. Outstanding pics. Elph. The blue Heron is so handsome. But I'd find ways to deter him if he were after my Kois. DH put up a net in the Fall over our pond. During the growing seasons, our dogs seem to do an adequate job of patrolling the area.
Brown Thrasher taking a break from the nest.
Elphaba, That Green Heron is adorable!! Sweet Carolina Wren and Thrasher!
Lily, Cute pics!
Duc, nice ones of the Hosp and Titmouse!
Hack, Good shots!
Lily, great observation on the HOSP I posted. I didn't notice the difference in sizes. Good capture of the egret. I haven't seen one here for a couple months. Love that Brown Thrasher.
Ellphaba, great shot of the Green Heron! LOL of him on the wire. I've read that if you don't look directly at a bird it will sit still longer, guess this proves how good their sight is. Your wren is adorable.
I'm starting a new thread a little early because I'll be off line for awhile...... go here for new thread http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fr.php
