I have 4 violets and today I noticed a very small insect on a lot of the flowers. The bug is white wormish and almost looks like a speck of dust until you poke at it and it moves. I've been looking into possible culprits and I think they may be thrips. My question is how do I treat my violets without ruining the leaves and such with moisture from any kind of insecticides? Does anyone have a possible home remedy for them? Thanks
African Violet pests :(
If you are using liquid make sure it isn't cold (warm) and the AV isn't in the sun. If you look up home remedies for thrips there is a whole lot of them. There is the dish soap one, alcohol based one, garlic based one and coffee one. Just remember that you have to keep doing this at least 3-5 times to get rid of the pests. hope this helps a bit.
Thank you for the reply....I went a little drastic, maybe, but I cut off all of the flowers..blooming or budding. Then I used a babysoft bristle toothbrush on the leaves. Now they look sad (they've been in bloom almost a full year)..but no more little bugs. And they will bloom again...I just hope it works. Thanks again :)
