another pretty hydrangea, this one is Harlequin hydrangea
June blooms
Those Laurel are not mine. They are growing wild all over our mountains. Thirty five years ago more or less I had a Mountain Laurel taken from private property planted on this property. It grew a little, bloomed maybe two years and then faded into the sunset. It is the Pennsylvania state flower. I'm sure folks try to steal them. The only place that would be legal would be on private property with permission. If anything would work air layering might. Getting caught removing them from state ground or private ground with out permission can get very costly.
You may not really want them anyway. They are wild and ranging growers. Forest managers hate them competing with tree growth. Deer will browse them if all other browse is eaten within reach. For deer they are starvation food and excellent cover to hide in.
Can anyone tell me what this plant is?
Looks like a "Speedwell'--but i don't remember planting it. There are two of these--growing healthy near the BIG perennial geranium that Chantelle (???) gave me. I asked about who gave me this BIG geranium....
Could it have been in the soil around the roots?
Here it is...
These are the older (pink) Begonia Grandis.
I recently went to a Fu-Fu Garden Center and bought a gallon pot of these. Had a gift card--thanks to my Daughter...Never paid attention to the color....
The pot was $10. And it had SO many new plantlets in it that it was filled to the rim!
I took it out of the pot and pulled all the little divisions off--enough to fill 9- 4" pots as "starts". Will take those to work to share...
The original plant was large--but i was able to, easily pull that apart to make 4 separate plants. They really have very little root systems to them. Just FYI---The little "bulblet" that they grow from is no bigger than a pea! Amazing!
Planted these white ones amid my Pink ones--and in a couple of other places.....They are doing well!
My biggest "find" at this garden center was large containers of Bonide Systemic Granules.....
I thought they no longer made this! HD stopped carrying this about 4-5 years ago.
Bought a 4lb. container for $20.99. Good deal!!!!! i am happy!

Gita, I'll take a wild stab and say the white spiky flower may be a gooseneck loosetrife from hart. YEs, coleup brought me a begonia grandis and they had such shallow root systems. The Shastas you gave me are almost in bud., and Becs shastas are even closer to bloom. And my two Brug maya/peaches n cream are both carrying a dozen huge flowers! I could smell the scent wafting the other night.
Hi Diana wind~ I really enjoyd the Salvia artemis I got from you. It made gorgeous huge furry leaves last year and this spring a huge white flower spike. i have cut them now though and put the stems on another site where I'll expect maybe a couple seedlings . Oh nice raspberry photo. I think I have the same colander and am getting raspberries now too, and blueberries
Sally--
This Loosetrife--Is it a perennial?
If it is--I need to move it to the back of the bed somewhere--as it is in the wrong spot.
Got a Store meeting at 6AM.....wouldn't be up this time otherwise!
Gita
I have finally had a chance to sit and look at all the pics. What a fantastic show of beautiful blooms. Thanks everyone for posting them.
Gita- I think it is perennial. Now, not that I am sure thats what it is. Anybody else want to ditto my ID, or not? (Gita's June 12 posts) Hey, the South African Foxglove is doing great! I probably should have given it more room though!
doc- interesting- I have seen those in Canada, never around here.
My daylily assortment, 90 percent from Ruby and John, is just starting to bloom.
coleup- agreeed, I am really liking the coleus I am using this year. The stem of Hibiscus you shared with me to root looks good so far!
100 plusposts and its only June 14th

Sally Idon't think Gita's plant is gooseneck loosestrife. The leaves just don't seem right to me. Perhaps Gita can post another picture.
Speaking of pictures, here's one of a contairer I just put together using the "haight ashbury" hibiscus I shared with you and some of my other coleus.

If you know what it is--what can you tell me about it?
Gita: It's definitely Gooseneck Loosestrife and everything you need to know is here: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/656/. It's one of those plants that people either love it or hate it :( I love the flowers but I hate that it's so aggressive! I've let it spread over an entire bank behind our pond for almost ten years, one because it's pretty and two because it did a great job suppressing the weeds. Now that I'm getting ready to tackle a new planting in that area I'm probably going to be kicking myself.
I've been enjoying everyone's photos! I've been having trouble with my camera so I don't have a lot of photos yet this year. I did get a few the other day and will try to post them soon, I've run out of time this morning!
Rcn--
Thank you for your more positive ID.
I KNOW I did not plant it--but I at that age where I forget many things.....
Not happy that it is invasive----will either get rid of it or plant it in my neighbor's bare bed.....she doesn't care!
It will be SOMETHING green!
Does this plant have any positive attributes?
As both of the plants are right next to my Knock Out Rose I just planted last year--and just about sitting on top of that big perennial geranium, I think it cannot stay there.....
Could I move it now?
Went out and took another picture......
Here you can see how "tight" the quarters are....like ALL my beds...maybe 2+ feet deep....
The huge, sprawling geranium will have to go--I am afraid.....I will give it to someone.....
Can I cut the Geranium back at this stage? it is pretty much done blooming......
OK! A new close-up of the Loosetrife....They both have so much new growth coming below the blooms....
Shades of the future????
Still a mystery of where I got it......Do bird droppings figure in on this one?
Thanks all...G.
Orchidfancy, DId they put in the sidewalk at your house and what have you done with the gardens? I would love to see some updated pics of the work. I do have some blooms out there missed quite a few while we were gone. I know that my daylilies are blooming I can barely see them through the weeds though. Heading out to tackle the weeds.
I actually love gooseneck loosestrife. It really does look like a flock of geese when in bloom. But Gita, it does spread like crazy, by fairly shallow rhizomes. You'd better get it out of that bed - it will take over the whole bed in a couple of years.
It is pretty easy to pull. If you want to grow it, stick it somewhere where you can block the roots or put up some kind of barrier that goes about 4 inches into the ground to block the roots.
HollyAnns. We just had a meeting with the city regarding to the sidewalk. They will take only 5 feet opposed to 12.5 feet and they will be starting in the fall . The city will give us few weeks in advance so we can do all the transplanting that we need to do. I was able to give away some things, I still have a lot to move at this point everything is either green, ready to bloom or blooming already. I am limited to amount of work that I can do outside because of the heat , I am extremely sensitive to it and I don't want to make any more trips to the ER because of it. So some things are done and a lot is in limbo.
I finished the flower bed that I made after losing my weeping willow it is coming along very slowly, the vegetable garden looks great. Right now I am doing the rain dance we need the rain badly. I still have a lots of things to do , but with a garden one never stop's
My new project will be replacing the railing on the porch so I will attempt to do that this week end with my husband. we need it before someone or something fall off LOL.pictures to follow. Another project....
Thanks hart! I appreciate your input.....
Lovely photos! Hoping I can take advantage of tomorrow's supposedly slightly nicer temps and wander out long enough to snap a few photos. It's purty out there, even if I'm mostly enjoying the view out the windows!
Hart, that Heliopsis is easy to grow. I've given away extras a couple of time but didn't get any dug for this past swap, in part 'cause I figured most people already had plants or seed from me. My dad just hauled off 5 mature plants and made several divisions of each to plant along their driveway. I love it because it's such a nice bright yellow and blooms pretty much nonstop from early summer until frost (longer bloom season than black eyed susans). It will bloom the first year from winter-sown seed, and don't be fooled by the fact that it might be just 18 inches tall that first year... the mature plants are 3-4 feet tall in my garden and make a nice backdrop for echinaceas and garden phlox. Full name is Heliopsis helianthoides var. scabra, and if you remind me in fall I'll send you a big handful of seeds. :-)
I've never seen it burgandy before, Wind very pretty...love the birdbath
wind--
I love the bird bath too! Did you make it? I mean--put all the pebbles on it?
Mine will still get dug up and passed on to this man i work with who has 2 acres of land and takes anything i don't want....
OR!! As I said earlier--i will plant it in my neighbor's bare bed.....
Gita
Does this plant have any positive attributes?
Gita, yes! I agree with Hart, I love the flowers and a large clump does look like a "flock of geese"! Ours has just started blooming, I'll have to see if I can get a picture, it really is lovely even if it is a nuisance. Years ago in my Maine gardens it had spread in a border and it took me forever to get rid of it, the roots travel a long way! You probably had a small piece of root "hiding" in something you planted and didn't even know it! You should be okay removing it now before it gets out of control. And yes, it's okay to cut back your Geranium. A lot of mine toppled recently with a heavy rainfall before I got a chance to cut them back and I'm already seeing new growth from the center so it's a good time to whack them back :)
Wind, I've tried that "burgundy" variety of Loosestrife several times without luck but I think this year I've got it "right"! Huh, that's weird, I've had this happen several times, I know I posted my picture in Plant Files but it's not there? Lysimachia 'Beaujolais' http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/76691/ Most Lysimachias like moist soils but 'Beaujolais' hates "moist" - it wants it lean and dry and full sun! As a matter of fact we found plants that had seeded themselves in the gravel driveway of the nursery with no help from us and they were thriving! I was so upset, and still am! A couple of weeks ago someone came to the nursery while we were having our Open House (at our home), stole plants and even had the nerve to dig the Lysimachias out of the gravel :(
stole plants--that just stinks. I mean who can love plants and then be a cheap mean sonofa you know
What is the matter with people?
What a sleaze!
