June blooms

Shenandoah Valley, VA

Finally got some flower photos taken. This is one of the new daylilies I just got a couple of weeks ago. It's Spacecoast Citrus Kick. This was one of the bonuses sent by the seller.

Potentilla Melton Fire. Hard to capture the color - it's peachier than shown.

Clustered bellflowers. You can see how pretty they are when a nice big clump is blooming.

The roses are balling some from the rain. This is a very old moss rose - smells wonderful - with climber New Dawn.

Not so close up, New Dawn in most of the photo, the moss rose to the left.

hart- great blooms--must be so pretty in your yard right now! I do have a good spot for the CB, I will rip out some of the variegated vinca I've been using as a live mulch until something better came along.
jen do i detect a rock and roll theme?
Is the dreeping jenny the one with te yellow flowers I see in there?
Go right now and give that last blossom a big hug and tell her how precious she is because you will blink and she'll be driving to school by herself...scuse me I need to dab...You must frame that picture

I love the ruffling on Spacecoast Citrus Kick

Yes the creeping Jenny has the yellow flowers.
Funny, didn't realize until I was posting the rock names. I need more to do a rock and roll garden.
Time definitely flies.

Darn hart!!!!!

Man! This June flowers Post just popped up! Such pretty pictures! I want them ALL!!!!
Looks so nice the way they all are mixed and naturalized.....

I especially love the mix of your blue Bellflowers with the Rose Campion....Since I have both of them in the "YUK" bed anyway--I will have to coax some into the area where my Bellflowers are now blooming....

Pretty, pretty pictures----and your personal "flower" is adorable!!!!! Nice shot!

Hugs---Gita

OK! I just went out and took a bunch of photos of whatever I have blooming.....Brace yourselves...

This is my first Asiatic Lily to bloom....every year..

This is second--at least this year....

This is my old Carpet Rose that I had to move to plant my Knock-Out Rose last Summer....
The carpet Rose got moved to a front-corner bed where my Tall Red Hibiscus "lives"....

NOT blooms--but here is one grouping of Coleus I grew from cuttings....Looks nice! They will be much bigger in a month or so....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Please overlook the green, plastic fencing you see here and there----it is so the rabbits won't eat everything i have planted...They ahave already done a lot of damage....Like--the wispy green plants you see in front of the Coleus are my Dwarf-Red Coreopsis--which already had tall stalks on them----CHOMP! and they are gone. They are now re-growing....OH, well--gotta be positive--they will be bushier as a result...

OK! off to more blooms----
This is one of 2 Geraniums that spent the Winter--all dried up in my basement.....Lookie now!

Here is my Endless Summer Hydrangea--BLUE this year!
I tried hard to feed it all kinds of acid stuff......It worked!
Love the ball-shape this shrub has. Of course--I cut off some of the straggling branches to contain it in the fall.....

Here is the same Hydrangia in 2008--ALL pink!

Here it is in 2009---slowly turning BLUE!

edited to say that--maybe--next year--it will be a nice, deep BLUE!
Just have to keep at it!!!!

These are Heliotropes.....still small--as I just planted them recently.
These are sold under the "Specialty annuals"--at a price of $3.00-$3.50.

*****Chantelle--IF you are reading this--this is one VERY fragrant plant!!!! Just to die for!
And--the most beautiful blue--ever!

Marching on------

I bought a couple of MP.'s of these annual Dianthus.....I just LOVE these!
Such a variety of colors! They are doing really well in all this heat.....

When these are done flowering--cut all the top part off and it will re-grow and bloom again in late Summer--early Fall....

Here is the deep pink--edged in white one--next to a small Zinnia starting to bloom--as well as a still-young Dusty Miller....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here is another pink one--splotched with a bit of white.....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This one is a pure red one.....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

This one is the deep velvety red one....just kissed with a bit of pink--which gives the red a lot more depth.....

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

And--they also come in pure white!

Just think! ALL this in a market pack!!!
What a deal for colorful border plantings.....
Yeah! They ARE annuals--but, sometimes, they do decide to come back--so don't dig them up and throw them away!
Perhaps--they have just a touch of perennial in their genes---as there are perennial Dianthus.....

Here are Jill's "Not Chocolate Daisies" (Heliopsis???)---just opened up.

Not as big a clump as I had hoped for--it IS their 3rd Summer here--BUT! They ARE in my "YUK" bed--so not the greatest location. I am just grateful for anything that grows and blooms there.

Of course, I DO just plant hardy, drought-tolerant survivor-type plants in this bed.....and I do enjoy seeing the bloom and thrive.....Amazing!

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

These are hart's Clustered Bellflowers--also in my "YUK" bed-----and I seem to also have had a yukky exposure!

They are doing well---I just have to water and water this bed---twice as often as any other.....
THE TREE takes it all!!!!! Well! It IS 45-50 feet tall!!!! and 45 years old.....Let's give what is due to the "senior"
plantings! It repays well--by the shade it provides. When i turn the corner of my sunny West side of my house--the temps, immediately, drop by 10 degrees......

Thank you TREE!!! But I hate your roots everywhere!!!!

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Another plant thriving right next to the tree--in an elevated bed--are the Northern Sea Oats....
Here they are still just growing. NO oat heads yet!

Had plenty of them at the Swap--Not too many takers.....YES! They ARE notorious self-seeders! Where do you think I get all these seedlings from????? They are ALL in my "YUK" bed--right next to the bed the oats are in!
You CAN just cut off all the dried oat seed-heads in late Fall and prevent this from happening.....

My God! Every time I look in this bed--these Oat seedlings are coming up--everywhere!
I am on a mission--ERADICATE THEM ALL!!!!! Dig them up--pot them up--and pass them on to someone else....

Note to any of you that took these--or have these. DO NOT PLANT THESE IN--OR NEXT TO--A FLOWER BED!!!! You will be sorry!

However--planted in an out-of-the-way spot, by a pond--where they can "do their thing"--they will be wonderful!

edited to say--that that tall-stemmed plant to the right--in the big pot--is the "Tomatillo" I am growing ONE of--for the first time....from seed...I was told by the woman that gave me the seeds--how big it will grow....
GEEZ! This is just in it's adolescence!!!!! I think I am in for a "bush".......:o)

Here is one of the many Rose Campions blooming away in my "YUK" bed--and many other places....
Just love the bright fuchsia color--it "pops" into your sight from a distance....

Will mix these with hart's Bellflowers because in the picture hart posted---they looked so wonderful together!

Thumbnail by Gitagal
Baltimore, MD(Zone 7a)

Here all some Stellas--also thriving in my "YUK" bed.....
They have been here for a long time. I have divided them--and re-planted them--and they just march on......

edited to point out that the evergreen-looking stems showing in this picture are from my, rather large, Rosemary shrub.
Also--happily living in my "YUK" bed.....Life goes on for those that are survivors!!!!!!!
