So NOT unusual, didn't even make the evening news here.

Those are some freaky ads.

The gov now doubled the estimate of the amount of oil leaked - oopsie!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Van der Sloot is working a deal to get back to Aruba, (beach towel service)...

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

They won't let him go.

Some interesting things on the oil leak. One out of every six pounds paid to British retirees comes form BP dividends. This is why they are very upset at the bashing going on from politicians here. The stock price has plunged. It's really stupid, since accelerating their demise helps no one and only brings us closer to paying for everything ourselves (those of us who actually pay taxes.)

Another item - an advisory panel from the National Engineering Academy is against stopping production and the moratorium. They said the shutting down process is the most dangerous part of the operation - and is exactly what caused the explosion on the BP rig. Also, the floating rigs are highly specialized and the newest, most advanced ones will simply leave for the North Sea and other areas. We will be left with the oldest, most dangerous ones when production re-starts.

It's a 'no win' scenario, for everyone & everything involved. The keys were in pretty bad shape the last time I went scuba diving there, this toxic soup wont help whats left of the living coral, when it hits the gulf stream it'll head for Cape Hatteras.

Thomaston, CT

Yikes.....what a mess!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

This is heartbreaking......

Heard that on the news, Celeste.

Terrible floods in Arkansas too.

Glad that the 16 yr old girl sailor was saved, but her parents should be in jail. Although - what better way to deal with teens...^_^

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

I thought that was ridiculous, - 'grandstanding', a minor in international waters circumnavigating the globe, a 'mini Magellan', for what? profit? fame?? - meanwhile people put themselves at risk in a storm at sea to save this juvenile?!
- They should make them pay for the rescue efforts!

Thomaston, CT

She's a lucky girl to be alive! That's a small boat to be going around the globe .....I'd have a hard time sailing on an ocean liner.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Yes, it really drives me crazy when people do stupid things and make others risk their lives to save them. They should be forced to pay every single cent involved - and then some. Mountain climbers, remote hikers, etc.

Thomaston, CT

Agreed.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

And she reportedly will try again!!

Eastern Long Island, NY(Zone 7a)

Ugh! ... they're nuts.

I think Vander Sloot, Sleuth or what ever his name is thinks hes up and beyond the law.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

This echoes what I posted a while back - even if we eliminated petroleum for transportation...
