I was horrified this morning to go out to the garden and find that my hydrangea, about 3' tall, which yesterday had at least a dozen blooms on it, was down to two blooms. It looked like they'd been bitten off. This isn't anything attacking the leaves, they seem fine. But entire blooms?! Could this be deer? Squirrels? And is there anything I can do to stop it? Thanks in advance for any advice.
Help, my hydrangeas are disappearing
My guess would be deer. Hydrangea are tops on the back yard buffet list as far as deer are concerned. There are many products that are sold that claim to discourage deer from dining on your plant material. I personally never had to use any of them so I cannot speak to their effectiveness.
I'd guess deer as well.
There is a product called Hinder that will stop the damage. Farmers in our area use it around the outskirts of their soybean fields to stop the deer. You might can google and find an outlet on line.
Agree with everyone, deer. No deer problem in South Florida, major deer problem at my parents in NY State. They switched deer repellents and started using Hinder last summer. Much better results with Hinder.
I use Liquid Fence
Thanks all for the info. I guess now we see if the Endless Summer hydrangeas will live up to their name and bring me more blooms over time!
