I have what I believe is "Autumn Joy," and it gets HUGE. Last year it flopped over, and somewhere on DG I read that I should cut it back before mid-summer to prevent that. I'd planned to do that, and there are also some late alliums coming up behind it that could use a little more sunlight, but now the florets have started to form. If I cut them off, will the plant grow new ones, or will I have a nice trim little plant with nothing but leaves come September?
Can I cut back sedum now?
I never heard to cut them back.
Found this info
"If taller varieties are planted in rich soil or shade they will be tall, lanky and topple.
Sedum should be divided every 3 to 4 years to maintain compactness and older plants will split in the center if undivided. Seed heads need to be pruned only once after all the blooms have finished, but they can be left over winter to provide food for birds. Remove seed heads in the spring when new growth shows."
