Different looking beetle. It's not the lily one. Lily beetles don't eat anything but lilies. They are bright red all over.

Nice poppy! Too bad about the bud. Hey, do you get TBI buds aborting on you? I have that happen every year. I used think it was because of wet weather, but it's been pretty dry here this month, and I'm still getting it. Very discouraging.

no I haven't.... either they have buds and bloomed... or just didn't bud out... some from the co-op 2 years ago have not bloomed... and some that I split last year... you leave the foliage on to die off naturally?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, usually. I pull off the dead ones. Cut foliage back some when transplanting. Don't know enough about TBI's yet, but learning. Trying to figure out how to combat borers. They're a big problem for me.

bummer... sounds like you got it right though... I pop the blooms after they fade... cut the stems off when they start looking ratty... and just leave them... unless splitting... only then do I cut the foliage... and most of the time after doing that they don't bloom the next year

Looks very similiar to a Japanese Beetle

South Hamilton, MA

You don't usually see the borer moth. They are very common. The larva which does the damage can grow to an ugly fat greay thing. If you see the edges of leaves which are jagged & often have runny substance, the borers are probably there. Squash it between your fingers.

Looks like japanese beetle.

Nice photos everyone. Nuts, Wha and Onewish, looks like you have the poppy market cornered. I agree with you Wha, they're such dynamic blooms, they need to stick around a bit longer!

A rose doing as it's name implies...rambling

Karen, I have no idea what the TBI is...sorry. I have had buds blacken, & not open, but I thought they were hit by frost....we had a freezing fog a few weeks ago, & it nipped all my hydrangeas. Some hosta leaves as well. Am loving all of those poppies.

OMG beautious! puff puff puff trying to keep up. I am particularly found of the foxglove/lupin pics in this one cuz foxglove don't do well here. Lupins luv it here and my lupins don't flop but they are aphid magnets so I cut them back after they bloom. Sorry onewish about the evil beetle/bug :( Lifting off to the new thread now...
