At this house we just purchased there is a very large weeping willow that is home to several morning dove nests. If I trim back this tree a little this winter will it upset these birds so they will not return? Also, how large do these trees get? This one is pretty big and covers about half the yard in shade. Just would like to tone it down a little because it hangs over and covers the gazebo, bridge and paifang in the landscape.
Weeping Willow
I always trimmed my willows every year, two or three times a year, to keep them under control. I only trimmed the smaller limbs, back to a main branch. They grow very fast. I don't know about trimming the larger limbs. ???
I would not worry too much about the birds. Lots of times their nests are damaged over winter anyway so they rebuild and repair them.
Tao, I have seen them hacked down to just about nothing and spring back once established, sounds like yours is as big as it gets and must say that is big enough. Beautiful Trees but need to keep them far away from septic lines.
