Best/Worse & What did I learn today..visit with friends!

Baton Rouge, LA

THANK YOU JUDY! She probably is fine....it's just been years since I've read one of her books.... so I may not be remembering correctly.....ANYWAY....I can't believe DH and I may actually be leaving on our OWN weekend together... I'm a little nervous! i WANT him to have the best time ever so we can plan more trips together!

So silly of me! Hope to get the laptop so I can visit with you all during my trip...but I'll find that out tomorrow...
Hugs,
Mary

Victoria Harbour, ON

LIZ, Tux is adorable, you can tell he stands tall..Rainey and Tux could be twins..so alike..no wonder you are thrilled..can see Kenny showing him who is boss...high energy dogs aren't they..how is granny doing?
any calls from the niece? all quiet on the homefront...how's work going..do you have holiday plans? as for your nephews, yep, time does fly, already my grandchildren are young men, seems like yesterday they were babies..

Mary, I'm getting excited about your weekend almost as much as you are, can feel the teen adrenaline flowing in your viens lol I sure do hope everything goes as planned, sometimes when we hope so hard for things to be perfect it goes awry...let's hope when you both get back that you'll want to make getting away together a priority..hey, could always book a trip to Canada??? we've beaches ???

Judy, Greg dropped in last night, I thought we were going to do the bike seat then but he and Mel had dinner plans, he took the seat and foam so he could cut to seat design, said 'thanks mom, this is perfect' and off he went..you are so right, he's a great son, always doing something for me so well worth what I'm donating towards the bike...the car dealership has painted the fram..design will be brilliant (Yukky) green with purple trim..Noah bought him a purple chain and handle grips of same purple...

I asked him when my lawn ornament would be moved off my lawn (Foxy Lady) and he said he'd try and work it in this weekend, if not on the weekend then by the next...told him I registered for my boat permit, didn't take him long to say 'why, you know I'll take you out wherever you want to go'...not so sure he trusts me with the boat..lordy been driving for decades before he came along...

Scarry thing Judy these kids getting their driving permits, coughed up my coffee when you posted you weren't adverse to having her followed, THAT I can picture...lol...lots of worried nights ahead of you..am sure she's been taught all rules/regulations and know she'll be without a car if she doesn't pay heed...

Was busy this morning, time to relax..going back to study...

Waving to all..

Glenview, IL

Good morning.

Taking a break...I have been busy this AM cleaning out my mailbox. LOL, had 3 month of stuff to delete, put in folders etc
hahha Betty, got to tell you, Breenie and I have had quite the discussion about driving and other matters. As you know we both can get quite dramatic on issues and kinda attitudy, but we do try to compromise on all, any how, as we were discussing driving and voice levels got loud, so I said Don't yell at me! LOL, she says I am not yelling, I'm talking with emotion!! OMG, that just cracked me up, I usually say i'm not yelling i talking loud so you hear me.

LOL on the bike color, Well you won't have to worry about anyone not seeing it! Why did he choose those?
Hope Greg gets the lawn ornament in the water soon...however, it might be second to the seat covering project, you shoulda used it as a trade hehee, get FL in water get seat cover...It's great that he will ride you anywhere you want to go, I think it's cute if he's worried about you driving, tables are turned.

Well, i am packing today, off to Wisconsin tomorrow. lots to finish up....OMG, guess what? I just made an appt to go to a nearby college!
As long as i am home mise well use my brain, lol seeing my speed typing obviously I need it. Tues, consultation of courses, well see how it goes from there.

Speaking of packing, sure hope Mary is on her way to beach with DH!!

OH LIZ...Tux is handsome! looks like he and Rainey get along. Yikes, sure hope he didn't hurt you when you got nipped, So glad you love him though, sounds like it's a for sure deal then?

My gosh, day is flying...I sure hope you all enjoy this weekend.

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Hope the weekend is just wonderful for everyone!!!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Hello everyone. Spending lots of time in bed, and taking cough syrup. Just can't seem to shake this darn cough. I went to the Dr, and she said, to let it run it's course.
Hope you all have a wonderful week-end!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Sorry to hear you are still not well LindaKay, hard to get rid of a cold at this time of year...glad you are doing what doctor ordered - resting...

I've been playing out in the dirt, almost time to come in for the night, Kyle just came over to have pizza and pop now he's off to a friends so I'll go back out, move the water hose - yikes 1/2 the grass is already dry and burnt out...I'll plant the perrenials I bought today and then relax...

Darlene is coming over at 7:30 in the morning so we can get to the plant sale before everyone else..lol..

Called mom, no cottage for her, she's taking meds/needle for the blood clots, has to be at hospital every morning at 8 so they can check her blood levels..she's not a happy camper..dr. did say most likely clots are caused by her recent fall...

Off I go to mosquito haven..talk after

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I was watching Dr. Oz yesterday and saw that you can use lemon eucalyptus oil as a natural repellent for mosquitoes and it smells way better than the deet and stuff. There were a couple other things, but that was the one they tested. Betty reminded me to share when she mentioned having to deal with the little blood suckers.

Nilwood, IL(Zone 5b)

Vinegar works and so does skin so soft.

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I have found that Skin so soft doesn't work for me and vinegar is stinky-LOL. I had never heard of the lemon eucalyptus oil and thought it was neat. I have heard that a lot of peeps swear by Skin so Soft though...

Victoria Harbour, ON

I've tried Skin so soft by Avon and didn't help me a whole lot..actually I was at Canadian Tire this morning..they had a mosquito catcher reg. $149.99 for $74.99..picked up the box, was going to purchase it then started to read...first entry said, works well on SOME types of mosquito's - hmmmm what if it's not my type..lol..then you had to purchase something for the inside from time to time so I put the box back on the shelf and left it alone...

Wonder where you purchase the oil?

Bought spray cans of ant-off for the ant hills in the yard, cost a fortune then tonight when Darlene called she said what works very well is borax mixed with sugar and sprinkled on the hill..she has extra borax so will bring some in the morning and we'll see which works better...she said you have to go in search of the main ant hill where the queen lives? wonder if she wears a crown..lol..

Greg dropped in, he's on his way out for supper, it's Melanie's birthday tomorrow..feel bad about not getting her something tomorrow BUT I purchased season passes for Canada's Wonderland Theme park and gave for each one and it's for their birthday, regardless when, but now that the birthday arrives, I feel guilty..have a few of those tote bags I make, maybe I'll give her one of those...

Bev, how's the gardening doing, got all those lillies planted? Scotty gaining strength..

Hi there 'tubby' hope the weather isn't too hot for you...
off to move the water soaker...

Waving to all

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty....

If it gets to hot. I'll suprized !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL

Tubby

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

Betty-they said you should be able to get it where you get Deet and Off. I haven't looked for it yet though.

One thing I read that was supposed to work for ants was putting 2 bowls near their hill. 1 of grits and 1 of water. They eat the grits and then drink the water and then explode;) tee hee hee. Sorry-I know a little malicious.

Another neat thing they had on Dr. Oz was that fire ants aren't actually part of the ant family. They are actually part of the bee/wasp/hornet family. I thought that was kinda neat too...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

Ants also shy away from cornmeal. A cup or two sprinkled a couple of times around their ant hills and soon they are gone....

Victoria Harbour, ON

Ohhh thanks for the tips..going to try Darlene's borax and sugar and if that doesn't work I'll move on to all of your tips..

Stacey, I really enjoy watching Dr. Oz...try not to miss it...very/very informative and he's not bad to look at either...

So laughing, there's a home at the entrance of my town, beautiful gardens and I always look at how he had rockcress and mini carnations plus many others forming around a walkway, well yesterday afternoon I saw a man out in the garden tilling so I stopped to say how beautiful it was..he told me if I wanted a few plants to drop in..we gabbed and gabbed..he was just sooo nice and also not bad to look at, just too bad his wife was cutting the grass...ahhh a wife..oh well, there went that idea...lol

I'm up, have coffee on as Darlene is sure to get here early, don't want to miss out on buying plants now do we, as though we need more...afterwards I'll make a quick trip into Midland , want about 10 bags of soil and thanks to Stacey who is talking applesauce cake guess I'll make on..

Must go run and turn the a/c lower, almost freezing in here...

Tubby you watch you don't get cold then if you are not experiencing the heat wave..at least you've no snow to contend with..Calgary here is still having snow..yikes, it's almost summer and they've a blizzard going on..

Susan, hope your neck of the woods isn't having white stuff?

Well better get at it..lots to do this morning..

Ames, NE(Zone 5b)

Betty

According to everyone else there is no such thing as a cold spell.........
I just like it hooooot

Tubby

Victoria Harbour, ON

Well you'd like it here today Tubby, it's just perfect, it's 76 and a nice breeze, great for working outside..

Quite the morning, been to the plant sale, how 60 plants came home with me I'll never know..lol..included is one flowering almond about 2' tall...

No sooner did Darlene and I empty her van of my plants that we looked at that easle..sure wanted it for the large mirror I did with bobbles last week..we were looking over the situation and who drives in but Greg..within minutes he had it together..needs to brings one piece to his shop to add something to it so by tonight that project should be done...

Off to town I went with Greg..he was going to a few places I wanted to go to so he said 'jump in' wonder if he'd have been so quick in inviting me when I asked him to pick up 15 bags of earth...

Had to say Greg/Greg - and a big G R E G O R Y...he had but a few specks of earth on his hands and shorts and was going on and on about it..little out of his box, everthing has to be in it's place, very organized, not untidy, paranoid..he just laughed and said "I know mom, but that's the way I am"

After unloading the truck we worked on his bike seat... worked out fine, he even bought silver tacks to do the edging..me I would have eyed the distance, Greg, nope, he had to take measurement and divide in 1 1/2" so the would be perfect going along the ridge of the seat...I'll say one thing, he's his father's son!

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

Now he's gone to put the bike together and project is 'fini' all except a decal which he will order with names of people who donated materials..yikes Judy, I should have said, where's my name, seems I bought the front wheel and materials for seat and my labor..thought I best not though after all, he said he'd come fix front door screen and the hose tomorrow..if I had to pay someone to do these things I'd be broke..so mummmm's the word!

Here's a trick to keep cats out of your garden - I know, I've done it and saw our habitually-in-the-garden-cat steer away!:
Plant a 3/4 full of water 2-liter pop bottle in your garden. Cats smell the dampness and won't "go where they pee". If the water is approx 2 inches from the top, and you can see about 4 inches of water, that should do it.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Hmmm that sounds interesting..so many home tricks out there, I've a book on them, must go in search of them..most likely works better than any store bought gimmick..

I went and did it, planted all but maybe 20 of the plants, really should go back and buy more soil..thought as you go down the back entrance into basement there was a lot of turf, needed cleaning, hard to dig so I just dug with all my might...ohhhh then I remembered that was where Bernie put the underground electric cable for my pond pump, turned around and looked, pump wasn't working, dug the area up again..yep..cut it almost in 1/2..called Bernie, he told me to get extension cord and run it to the pond for now..he'll either come and repair it tomorrow or Monday when he's in the area...drats, one step forward and one backward..lordy it's a gorgeous day out there...I'm almost exhaused but not quite so a sandwich then off I go and finish planting..

Victoria Harbour, ON

Bath time, I'm dirty as can be, all my plants have been planted and watered, got to tell you if was a chore to find a little corner here and there to put them in..unless I enlarge or make other gardens there will be no more buying plants...

Kyle dropped in and wanted me to go riding .. said I could ride the green bike and look cool...ok..how does a 5' lady lift her leg high enough to go over a 26" wide wheel? off he went with other friends, am sure he'll put a lot of miles on her...now Greg can get onto other chores..

Susan-the funny thing is that my cat LOVES water-LOL

WOOO Betty-looking hot on that bike!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Morning...it will be a spectacular sunshine day here...going to have breakfast and light a fire in the pit, would have done so last night but wind was up..

Going to set up that easle in back garden with the mirror, was basement floors, plant all those calla lillies then it's sit on the lounge, a book in hand and enjoy...

Ann dropped in last evening for a chit/chat..news is not good, will tell you about it tomorrow...Mike sure can use prayers...

Hope it's a sunshine day in your neck of the woods!

Waving to all...

(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm praying today for Mike and Ann. Please give them a hug for me and let Ann know that my heart is with her.
We are off for a fmily birthday today. Granddaughter turns three!!!!
Hope today is a smiling day for everyone...

(bestest fairy)Tempe, MI(Zone 5b)

I am hunkering down inside today-supposed to be 90-UCK-and it isn't even June yet. Oh my, this summer is going to be terribly hot...

OMG-Betty is going to actually RELAX?? No way!!LOL

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, Ann said to say thank you for the card, it touched her heart that a stranger (now friend) is praying for their needs..she wondered if she could have your e-mail address, if so could you d-mail please?

Stacey, is going to be hot, it's 80 already and only 10:00..just watched Joel Olsteen so now I can head into town, I know, said I'd rest, but need a few planters, batteries and screws to finish up a few things, that is resting right?

Don't you go get heat stroke Stacey, inside is where you should be..I've just put the humidifier on, it's cool with a/c but I find it damp downstairs...am sure that will work..

Bernie said he might drop in later to fix the hydro wire I broke yesterday so won't be long in town, quick drive in/quick drive back...

Barb enjoy the get together...they can be fun!!!

Victoria Harbour, ON

Drats, too bad I can't get the effect of the mirror in the whimsical part of the garden, the large green oval is the mirron on the easle, perhaps when the sun dies down I can take another...right now it's taking all the green from the trees, pretty but doesn't show you just how pretty...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
Victoria Harbour, ON

too hot for the flowers, many have closed up for the day..lol..did manage to get this photo though...probably won't have mega flowers till end of June/early July..until then I'll admire what I can..

Victoria Harbour, ON

LOL, no Tubby, can't lift my leg that high, would have to have a crane lift me...you are a teaser for sure!!!

Hmmm went to take my bike and the back tire was out of air, not sure why, will have to take the compressor , fill it with air and if it goes flat again, will have to have it repaired before Kyle's Ride for the Cure on Sunday...

So drive to Ann/Mike's by vehicle..really too hot to be riding anyway..

Had a nice visit..it's the 1st Sunday they don't have to drive back to the city, they still can't believe they now live here in paradise...

Mike's going fishing tonight and Ann's going to rest...

This section of the house was built this spring..what an amazing transformation..they are both so pleased, now let's pray that Mike gets good news on Tuesday..by good news is that he will be able to have chemo .. the operation scheduled was cancelled, but let's hope they give him a ray of hope...

Thumbnail by Bettypauze
(Barb) Manchester, NH(Zone 5a)

I'm sending a dmail in a minute Betty for Ann.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Barb, just called Ann and gave her your info..tks sweetie..they are off to the specialist tomorrow so know it's heavy on their minds..Mike looks so well and happy now that he's moved to the cottage, overwhelming to think that someone so strong and seemingly healthy is so ill..

It's a hot muggy day here..heat warning issued, warnings totalled this year are more than last year...

This morning I watered all the new plants/shrubs, trying to keep them from wilting, enjoyed a coffee on the back deck..with pen in hand, made note of what I needed to do before my trip to Ohio when I meet up with Crissy...

Came inside, dusted everything so as far as I can see I'll be able to put my feet up and relax tonight...lol

Was driving into work this morning and saw that everyone's grass is next to dying..we may have rain tonight - Wedn. Sat. and Sun. - hoping we do during the week but not so on the weekend...

Because they are having a Garage Sale on my street, Ann/Mike will bring some of their things for the sale then on Sunday is Kyle's Ride for the Cure, so sure hoping it moves out of our area...

Quiet this morning so I took a bag of wool that Suzanne brought over that she wanted a ripple knitted afghan done with...will work with it...

What are you all up to?
