How to start Mock Orange ???

A friend whose plant 'got away' from them recently cut it back, and gave me several pieces of it, that are 8ft tall and quite willowy. I love the scent, and would love to have starts from the gift, but not sure how to do that. These stalks are bare 2/3 way up from root then branch out and become leafy and have flowers on them. Can they be 'saved' and will they root ? Or are these just going to be cut flowers to look and and enjoy ? I have them in a bucket of water to prevent wilt just now, but know that probably won't work to root them. Any help appreciated.
