I would like to plant some tall trees along my western fence line for privacy and to block the high winds that come through the yard (the wind has knocked over a marble-topped table, and a heavy metal screenhouse to give you an idea of how windy it is). Also, sodium lights on tall poles are common in my neighborhood, which makes it difficule to sit on the patio at night without sunglasses. Colorado Blue Spruce trees sound like they might work, but am unsure as to which variety to choose. I live on a little less than 3/4 acre, so there is plenty of room for the bigger varieties. I'd like something 30 - 40 feet tall. Also, there is a spot about 10 feet of my home, where I need to plant something to block out some lights. Still need something about 35 feet, but more narrow than the typical spruce. I would be open to another type of plant for the area near the house, if anyone has ideas.
Thanks for your suggestions!
I'm in zone 5a, near Joliet, IL
