I have a candy corn vine planted in a pot with petunias. The petunias have become overwhelmed by botrytis but I see no sign of it yet on the vine. I know I need to throw out the petunias, but right now it is still rainy and wet so I am waiting til it is dry so I do not spread the spores. Meanwhile, how/can I savethe vine?
Need help to save candy corn vine from petunia botrytis
Here's an article that has some suggestions on controlling the spread http://www.simplegiftsfarm.com/botrytis.html The spores can spread whether it's wet or dry so if you try to pull out the petunias, the spores are going to spread anyway (and chances are since they're in such close proximity, the spores are probably already on your candy corn vine anyway). The best thing to do is probably to cut off any infected parts of the petunia as soon as possible, and if any new spots show up on blooms cut those off as they show up. Then follow some of the tips in the article (making sure to have good air circulation around the pot, don't water in the evening, etc) and that should hopefully minimize any issues.
