Daily pix No. 322

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

If I had just seen this female Cowbird by herself, I might not have ID'd her, but with the male, I knew what she was.

Female Brown-headed Cowbird.

Great, truly awesome shots, everyone! Huggergirl, what's the orange thing on the feeder? Beautiful Oriole captures!

Fredericksburg, VA(Zone 7a)

You are correct Hack! I am correcting it now... thanks!

Columbia City, IN(Zone 5b)

My feeders are red ,and I kept seeing and hearing BO but they wouldnt come to the feeder and I thought maybe something orange would get thier attention !!! I have no oranges !!!

Central, AL(Zone 7b)

huggergirl, purple H.Davidson. Ahhh how 'kool'. I can only dream of those carefree ride moments you all enjoy. Hack, how big would you say the Cowbirds are? Roughly the size of the Robins? I only get to see them from afar. Hard to judge their sizes.

It's my special day of the year. Everyone gets it. Hubby is putting a bird bath fountain together for me. If I'm ever so lucky I'll get some action shots of the fountain later. Have a good weekend everyone.

We revisited the Bald Eagle nest yesterday. This is the best my Panasonic Lumix can offer of the pair of the Eagles;

Below the raucous caterwauling of the mother bird, this is what I found today...get a load of those big ol' tail feathers, would ya!

Lily_love - I'd say a Cowbird is about the same size as a Robin. But, I've never seen a Cowbird stand up erect like a Robin does.

Awww Mary she is adorable!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Lily_love, I just returned from Cooper Creek Park and, low and behold, I saw a mama Mallard and her two babies.

Here they are:

Then, I looked across the pond and way over on the other side was another Mallard family. Here's a none-cropped pic the 400mm gave me. They were pretty far away.

Here's a cropped picture from the distant Mallard family. I really like this lens. I wish I had taken my Tamron 1.4x TC, because I wonder if a cropped pic of the image made by just the 400mm may be the better way to go - as opposed to using the 1.4x TC..

Here's a Mallard couple, I never saw any babies associated with them.

I saw this Canada Goose strolling across the grounds of the park.

My last pic is, too say the least, weird. I never thought that a Canada Goose's tongue was so big. Oh, well.

It was making a lot of racket.

Fantastic photos everyone-just too many to comment on!
Huggergirl, congrats on the oriole finding the feeder.
Mary, that baby is just precious!!

My male and female Cowbirds are still hanging around too. Hack, hope one of us will be posting their offspring soon. Mine usually grow up with the Calif. Towhees, wonder about yours?

Sorry Hack, we posted at the same time. Love that last pic of the goose-you should save that one for a contest!!

I found a couple of immature Oak Titmice looking for food.

I already have a large group of orioles here, still waiting for all their little ones to show up one day.

I didn't even know we cross-posted, duc. I had already finished the posting. Never knew you were there.

That's a nice snap of the B-h Cowbird. I saw a pair (Mr and Mrs) on the ground just a little bit ago - no pic though. Hummm, I don't even know what a baby Cowbird will look like. AND your Orioles are super.

Hi Hack and Duc, Hack you seemed to have a ball at the Cooper Creek Park. I'm delighted you've found those Mallards with their youngs. Oh yes, I'm with Duc. That pic. of the Goose is awesome! BTW, it begs for a caption. ^_^

Duc, I can sure get used to having those adorable Oak titmice. Not to mention those flycatchers. They're so cute!

Manzanita, OR(Zone 8b)

Thanks Lily.

Hack, I found a couple older photos of the juvenile Cowbird-

I adore those immature Oak Titmice and the Oriole and Flycatcher are beautiful!!

Hack, Wonderful shots of the Mallards w/ ducklings and the Canada Geese!

Columbus, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks Lily, duc and pelle. I was thinking about a caption for that pic, so far I'm blank.

And thank you, duc, for the pic of the juvy Cowbird. I like the pic of mom feeding junior. Just the other day I saw a female Cardinal feed a male Cardinal - guess maybe the same thing was going on here.

We have lots of juveniles here from little Groundhogs, Bunnies and Grackles. Lots of noise between the Grackles and Starlings.

I love your juvy phtotos pelle. I'll definitely be on the look-out for a juvy Robin.

It ain't the best shot, but Resin thinks this is a juvy Cowbird.

Has anyone seen the field glasses with digital caqmera attached? Do they work? Or perhaps DG people are too sophisticated & use fancier equipment.

Tiller, OR(Zone 8a)

Last week I got my first close up look at the Yellow-breasted Chat.

The next morning the county had a (without notice) roadside spray crew up here, the first in over 20 years. I won't tell you about that, except to say that other than high flyers I never saw (or heard) another bird the rest of the day. The next morning all 13 of my feeders were still full. They usually are empty by mid to late afternoon on the same day I fill them. Sick at heart here.

Nice ones Hack!

Hi Iris, I think I remember someone a long while back saying they had them but I can't remember who that was. I just googled them and reviews don't look very promising but why not ask on the Camera forum and you might get a larger audience and maybe someone who has them.

Good shot Tiger! So sorry to hear about that spraying, it's so sad.

Tigerlily, I can sense the heartache via your typing words. Hope things will change for the better in the future. Have a blessed evening everyone.
